The Recording Academy awarded 2008’s highest-selling artist in any genre with six Grammy Award nominations. During Wednesday night’s nomination ceremony/concert, Lil Wayne received nods for Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and two additional nominations for Best Rap Song. To date, Tha Carter III [click to read] has sold approximately 3 million copies.

Other notable Hip Hop nominees were Kanye West and Jay-Z, who both received nominations as featured guests on the T.I. track “Swagga Like Us,” in addition to their four awards in other categories. Lupe Fiasco and T.I. also received four nominations in various categories.

Nominations were given for recordings released during an eligibility period which ran from October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. The 51st Annual Grammy Awards air on Feb. 8, 2009 on CBS from 8:00 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Nominees in all Hip Hop/Rap categories, as well as R&B nominees are listed below.
