Last week, Snoop Dogg producer, emcee and affiliate Terrace Martin released Locke High [click to listen], a mixtape hosted by his braided mentor and DJ Drama [click to read]. Today, the Aphilliates leader and Martin, who produced two tracks on Ego Trippin’ [click to read], spoke to HipHopDX about the significance of the street release.

Locke
High
is a inner-city school in Watts, California that I am an alumni of
these type of schools usually gets a negative picture painted and I wanted to show that positivity and success can come from those type of areas. Locke High represents all inner-city communities in America. There is a “Locke High” in every poverty stricken area in America and these neighborhoods manifest some of our country’s most talented people,
” said Martin.

DJ Drama added, “I’ve
been working with Terrace for a while and we had been throwing around
ideas while doing some work together. I really dug his music and what
he brings to the table from a production standpoint. He brought me
some awesome material for this street album. His music is like a
breathe of fresh air.
Locke High marks my west coast trilogy – working
with veterans in the business to being able to introduce something new
from the west coast.
