Jhené Aiko has a lot to get off her chest in her newest single, “Triggered (Freestyle).”
The Grammy-nominated singer shared the single, and accompanying video, with her millions of followers on Twitter, Tuesday (May 7).

Aiko’s tweet also included a link to her website where fans could watch the video and read the lyrics.

Prior to the combination release, Aiko shared an intimate moment with her Twitter followers when she uploaded a screenshot of a personal note that provided background to the song’s theme and overall subject matter.
“one night i was so deep in my feelings, i was afraid of what i might do,” she wrote, “i didn’t want to revert to the same bad habits that have set me back time and time again. i realized that instead of running away from my emotions… i needed to sit with them, express myself and say whatever came to mind. it was healing to say the least… and now i feel a bit more free #triggered.”

This is Aiko’s first music release since sharing her 2017 album, Trip. The “Sativa” singer originally made the decision to postpone her upcoming music out of respect for Nipsey Hussle.
