After dropping off the “Friday Rich” single featuring Blueprint, Fake Four Inc. artist Spoken Nerd has returned with a visual for the track.

Directed by kidDEAD, the video was shot in Spoken Nerd’s native city of Nashville and showcases the destruction that goes along with gentrification.

“‘Friday Rich’ is a song about gentrification,” Spoken Nerd explained to HipHopDX last month. “I had written my verse with no intention of making it a pop song but when Ryan [Griffin] and I went to flesh it out we wrote a chorus together that became an anthem for our city.”

Spoken Nerd continued, “The studio we wrote this song in is a block away from the now rubble that was once the Warner Brothers building. One day on our way back from lunch, Ryan took a brick back with him. He’s worked on records in that building. Our city is changing and peoples lives are being affected by that change.”

There aren’t too many artists out there who remember to have a sense of humor when approaching their bars, but Spoken Nerd is no ordinary rapper. Signed to reputable indie label Fake Four Inc., the burgeoning Nashville artist recently delivered his inaugural solo album, I Need A Friend.

One of the cuts on the 13-track project, the Ryan Griffin-produced “Friday Rich,” boasts a guest spot from Rhymesayers MC Blueprint who effortlessly blends his commanding style with Spoken Nerd’s unbridled urgency.

“‘Friday Rich’ is a song about gentrification,” Spoken Nerd explains to HipHopDX. “I had written my verse with no intention of making it a pop song but when Ryan [Griffin] and I went to flesh it out we wrote a chorus together that became an anthem for our city.

“The studio we wrote this song in is a block away from the now rubble that was once the Warner Brothers building. One day on our way back from lunch, Ryan took a brick back with him. He’s worked on records in that building. Our city is changing and peoples lives are being affected by that change.”

While the guest features on the new project are minimal, there’s a sense Spoken Nerd really wanted the Blueprint collaboration to happen — and is undeniably happy it did.

“We had a couple ideas for features for this song but listening to Blueprint’s Radio-Inactive on the studio monitors sparked our inspiration so I reached out to him,” he says. “Blueprint has always struck me as a remarkable human being. I’ve only met him a handful of times, but we always have great conversations and seem to pick up where we left off.”
