Jon James McMurray, a 34-year-old rapper from Canada, fell to his death while performing a stunt for a music video in British Columbia. According to The Canadian Press, McMurray was rapping on the wing of an airplane when things went awry.

“As Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct,” his management team said in a statement. “Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly.”

Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating the death. No one else was injured in the incident.

McMurray reportedly trained for the stunt, which was the latest in a career that combined his extreme sports background with his rapping. His official YouTube channel features other videos with aerial stunts.

Earlier this month, McMurray released his most high-profile collaboration to date: a song titled “The Man” featuring RiFF RAFF.
