Houston, TX

As one of the masterminds behind “Mind Playing Tricks On Me,” Scarface established himself as an undisputed Houston Hip Hop legend decades ago.

On June 26, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Councilman Dwight Boykins held a special ceremony to honor the Geto Boys MC (real name Brad Jordan) with his own day, the appropriately titled “Scarface Day.”

In a video captured by Click2Houston, Scarface told the crowd, “You know me as Scarface, but now you get the opportunity to meet Brad Jordan. I’ve done a lot of music, you know. I’ve done a lot of speaking of social … words that take place in our community. That Scarface has turned into Brad Jordan.

“I really want to let y’all know that I’m getting ready to make a super impact in the community because that’s the most important thing to me right now. That’s my passion. To make sure everybody is treated equally. To make sure we get equal justice. To make sure that everybody is on the same level playing field.”

Nearly 30 years in, Scarface is still turning out new material. After dropping 2015’s Deeply Rooted, he returned with Deeply Rooted: The Lost Files last year.
