Chicago, IL

Donda’s House creative director Che “Rhymefest” Smith has shared a statement announcing that the Chicago non-profit will no longer be using the name of Kanye West’s late mother Dr. Donda West.

The decision comes after West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, went on a Twitter tirade aimed at her husband’s former songwriter on Saturday night (May 26).

In a statement posted to the Donda’s House, Inc. Twitter account, the organization explained, “Due to recent events that have occurred over the last 48 hours, we have decided to no longer use the name Donda’s House, Inc.

“This has been an incredibly difficult decision but the social media quotes from Kim Kardashian West, as well as the expressed interested of her family running the organization, has brought us to this decision.”

The statement continued, “Over the last five years we have put our students and our community first. We’d like to thank all of our supporters, and we assure you that our hearts have always been with the City of Chicago and we will continue to support youth in our future endeavors.

“We encourage Kim and Kanye to indeed pick up the baton of service.”

The controversy initially started after Rhymefest tweeted that West said “fuck the youth of Chicago” when he asked for help in rebuilding Donda’s House. He also said ‘Ye cared more about finishing his upcoming solo album than he did the non-profit started in his mother’s name.
