Aesop Rock has returned with a new video for “Klutz,” which comes courtesy of his longtime label Rhymesayers Entertainment. Over a deep, elastic bass line, the cryptic wordsmith packs his dense wordplay into roughly four minutes of no-frills Hip Hop.

“Occasionally song structure eludes me and it feels good,” Rock said in a press release. “No problem-solving or pesky hit chorus, just rambling. Klutz is such a moment.

“I had started a couple things to this beat before sacrificing it to the gods of not-shutting-up, but this seemed a fitting fate.”

Longtime video collaborator Rob Shaw helped Rock visualize his “long-windedness,” while Steve “ESPO” Powers crafted the artwork.

The Portland-based MC was questioning his place in the rap world last September after cancelling several shows in Australia.

Although Rock resurfaced with “Hot Dogs” last November, he retreated from the public spotlight once again. In an Instagram post, he — in true Aesop Rock fashion — eluded to his disappearing act as “layered.”[apple_news_ad type=”any”]

Apologies for all inconvenienced by the cancellation of September’s Australia tour. The reasons for the cancellation are layered, and personal, and not stuff I care to share with anyone outside my immediate circle – hence the term “unforeseen circumstances”. It’s certainly not a decision I took lightly, but one that was very important to make. Love y’all, and sorry for the times I’ve let you down. I’m doing the best I can. I have used a picture of Kirby to soften the blow, but all Australians can feel free to focus their "fuck you"s in the comments below, at which point I will get sad and delete this. Beyond all this – I have other thoughts I want to express regarding my future in music, which I had hoped would all be neatly summarized in the sweetest paragraph of all time by now – but I can’t seem to find the right words, or even decide what I want to say. I guess I’ll speak on it if/when it feels natural. Until then – peace and thank you. Beautiful day in Brooklyn. Gonna go for a walk. ✌️
