The nominations for the 2018 Grammy Awards were announced early Tuesday (November 28) with JAY-Z leading the pack with eight nominations for his work on 4:44. While a nomination for someone as esteemed as Hov is to be expected, a nomination for an 18-year-old R&B singer from El Paso, Texas is somewhat less likely. But Khalid and his debut album American Teen were nominated for five Grammys, including one for Best New Artist.
Khalid took to Twitter to express his surprise.
“Woke up to find out that I’m nominated for 5 Grammys,” he wrote. “I’m in shock. I’m so thankful man this is unbelievable.”

Logic, whose suicide prevention anthem “1-800-273-8255” topped Billboard’s Hot 100, also earned a couple of nominations, including Song Of The Year and Best Music Video. Apparently all he needs now is a new suit.
“Today I was woken up by my wife calling to tell me I was nominated for Song Of The Year at the Grammys and Best Music Video,” he wrote on Twitter. “I can’t even believe this tweet! Holy shit. I HAVE TO GO BUY A SUIT NOW!#RattPack.”
