Following Tuesday’s (October 31) release of CyHi The Prynce’s “Dat Side” featuring Kanye West, some people jumped to the conclusion that it was Yeezy’s comeback song, but that’s far from the case.

According to TMZ, West recorded the song in September 2016, two months before he canceled his Saint Pablo Tour and ended up in the hospital for a mental breakdown. Therefore, there’s no way his verses were a response to JAY-Z’s barbs on the 4:44 track, “Kill Jay Z,” which were aimed at Hov’s Watch The Throne collaborator.

Some assumed West’s “Dat Side” line, “People claim they praying for you/ Really they be preying on you” was a jab at JAY. Considering their fallout stemmed from an infamous Yeezy rant during a concert in October 2016, “Dat Side” would’ve been recorded prior to the incident.

West is still laying low like he has been for the better part of 2017. Earlier this year, he was holed up in Wyoming allegedly working on new music, but other than that, he’s been so “underground” that Saturday Night Live even did a recent skit titled “Where’s Kanye?”
