Atlanta, GA

As the city of Atlanta inches closer to marijuana decriminalization, the Hip Hop community has found itself on cloud nine following a decision to lighten the penalties for marijuana possession.

On Monday (October 2), the Atlanta City Council passed a new legislation reducing the consequences of being caught with a small amount of cannabis. Rather than a $1,000 fine for possessing an ounce or less of marijuana, offenders will instead pay $75 and also avoid jail time, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

While sharing the news on Instagram, Atlanta super rapper 2 Chainz pointed out that the legislation “will save so many young people from bullshit charges that later haunt them.”
