If you weren’t there to experience the magic that went on at the Radio City Music Hall August 31, then I hope you watched it on TV. I also hope you don’t feel too bad for not being there in person, cause I was there for YOU! Yes, they actually gave me access to the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.
As you might know, the real magic happens backstage and this year I guess MTV realized the same. The network installed about 30 cameras in the backstage area, (there were none in the dressing rooms). Some of the artist that knew seemed paranoid and even I felt watched, but I kind of came to the conclusion that no one was interested in watching me.
I also had access to the press room and the “one on one” room. I had the chance to exchange thoughts with T.I., his protégé Young Dro, and my favorite, DJ Drama. The latter was seated next to none other than Christina Aguilera for a good part of the show, and Tip told me that it was all around a real honor and pleasure to be able to perform and just be at the award show.

That’s when I noticed that when I use to watch the show, it seemed so bi, and being there made me see that it’s even bigger.
Everything is done in a hectic and speedy fashion, every step and every word is written and planned down to the fullest and there’s completely no playroom. I was a little lost in the back rooms, but let me tell you what people we’re talking about, or lets say artist, everyone was polite and friendly, but some people seemed to have more information than others.
I heard some mention about a wedding that is supposed to happen this year in November. Yes they we’re talking about Beyonce and Jay-Z. Unfortunately I didn’t ask further since I don’t think any journalist was suppose to hear anything about it, but at least it a clue and a happy event, if it really happens.

The VMA’s are also not only the event of people getting their recognition for exceptional Videos, its also the Hook-Up event for the artist, yes that’s what they say, and so I made my way to find out who was seeing or at least wanting to see someone there.
And so I heard that a lot of young men, even some of the Band members of Fall Out Boy we’re eyeing Rihanna and told me, that they cant believe every time they see her she is even more breathtaking, and she is really stunning in person.
Everyone who got to see Beyonce’s performance could only say that Hov is one lucky man, I heard that from 50, married LL and even from little Chris Brown.

And even though the VMA’s we’re really hot, the real party went down at the after Parties, and of course I was there, from Beyonce, where I lost the patience to keep waiting outside, and I think I saw The Clipse who had their own issues getting in immediately, I decided to take off and go to Tao for 50’s party. That one was poppin, let me tell ya.
Everyone who is anyone was there getting wild on bars and tables, pouring Champagne out worth thousand and thousands of dollars. 50 was surrounded by a bunch of hot models, who we’re getting loose, it was fun to watch but I decided to leave and headed to the Interscope party at PM. When I walked in, I think people we’re really wasted. I mean the girls in the shortest dresses getting wild, the Black eyed peas on tables, they played Fergie’s single, London Bridge like 1000 times that night. Although I was sick, I was quite surprised to see how many label execs and artist came out to get insanely drunk and wild.
That’s why award shows are so unique, not because of the boring show, where everyone sits in too expensive close with a stiff neck, no folks. It’s the after parties that make it worth while and the little side enetertainment, like Mos Def pulling up in a trailer, performing and getting arrested for it outside of the Radio City Music hall.
