Brooklyn, NY

After several people on social media claimed there were gunshots fired at Future’s Nobody Safe Tour stop Friday (May 19) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the NYPD has denied a shooting occurred at the show.

Authorities say they have an explanation for the loud sound that concertgoers might have mistaken for a gun being fired. NYPD Lieutenant Tarik Sheppard gave the following statement to VIBE explaining the concert ended at 11 p.m. EST and people left the venue soon after.

“As people were exiting the Barclays Center, there was music playing over the PA system,” he said. “The song that was playing had the sound of gunshots at the end. In addition, the stage was lowered and it came down faster than normal causing a loud metal on metal crashing sound. These sounds coupled together startled some people and they began to exit quicker than normal.”

Some of the social media posts showed people rushing out the doors after hearing the sounds, but Sheppard downplayed the extent of the exodus.

“There was no stampede and no injuries due to anyone getting trampled,” he continued. “There were a couple of reported minor injuries where people sprained or twisted their ankles while they were trying to quickly exit.”

Barclays Center also denied the reports of gunshots. In a post on Twitter, the venue corroborated the NYPD’s statement.

Future seemed to not be concerned over the happenings. He thanked the crowd before going to the club.

But many of the fans were not in as good of a mood, clearly rattled by the experience.

Future’s Nobody Safe Tour is scheduled to stop Saturday (May 20) in Hartford, Connecticut.
