BTY YoungN, a rising rapper out of New Orleans, was shot and killed over the weekend in his hometown. The 27-year-old artist was affiliated with Birdman’s Rich Gang outfit and had a promising career that was starting to pick up steam.

Local paper The Times-Picayune reports that the rapper born Desmone Jerome was gunned down on Airline Highway in Hollygrove, according to police reports. The paper states in its report that BTY YoungN was standing beside a Shell station gas pump when gun shots rang out at around 11:15 p.m., striking him several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene by investigators.

According to his mentor, Michael “Mista Maena” Patterson, BTY YoungN left his criminal past behind for his budding rap career. And according to accounts from friends, BTY YoungN was planning to meet with a lawyer to look over a possible contract with Birdman’s Cash Money Records imprint.

BTY YoungN’s court records were mentioned in the Times-Picayune report, which included a history of drugs and weapons arrests. In 2013, facing an attempted second-degree murder charge, BTY YoungN pleaded guilty and the charge was bumped down to aggravated assault.

This past January, DX featured BTY YoungN and GreatWhite Stylez’s “Mac & Brad” video.

Earlier this month, BTY YoungN connected with Calliope Bub for their 3 To The 17 mixtape. BTY’s last solo mixtape outing, 2nd Feed Up, dropped this past February and featured verses from Great White Stylez, Da$h, Jadakiss, and Hollygrove Keem among others.
