As fans await Lupe Fiasco’s DROGAS Light album (due out February 10), they can get a glimpse into his creative thoughts now that he’s shared his review of Ab-Soul’s DWTWalbum on Twitter today (January 5).

Fiasco donned his critic hat after the TDE rapper mused about waiting to hear his thoughts on the new LP.

And the Chicago rapper answered the call. Lupe praised Soulo’s lyricism and intricate wordplay on the 16-track project.

“His firm understanding of the mechanics of morphology, syntactical structure, multicategoriality, lexical amiguity, conceptual assembly and punning allow him to elegantly extract immense amounts of literal and metaphoric meaning from phrases and in some cases single words alone,” he wrote.

Fiasco applauded Ab-Soul’s craft and how he’s allowed himself to grow naturally.

“‘Do What Thou Wilt’ is an example of a master at work and play,” he expanded. “A comfort zone where the skill set is allowed to expand and contract semi-autonomously going not off intent but off instinct and muscle memory. The culmination of years of training in the art of lyricism and classic forms and pushing further outwards in the borders of the contemporary rap frontier. A solid step forward on his path up the mountain.”

Ab-Soul Lupe Fiasco DWTW Review

HipHopDX gave DWTW a 4.2 out of 5 rating, praising Ab-Soul’s use of duality and ability to create depth throughout the project.

“At times profound and others, utterly confusing, the 16-track opus gets denser with every listen. All the while, Soulo becomes more lyrically proficient than he’s ever been on top of some of the darkest production in 2016,” Senior Features Writer Ural Garrett wrote.
