Weeks after making headlines for protesting a President-elect who calls himself “the king of debt,” rapper T.I. is in the news because he might owe some people a lot of money.
According to a report by TMZ, T.I.’s team told organizers of a Florida high school graduation party that the rapper would perform at their bash. The organizers, Planet Productions, claim that they sunk $300,000 into advertising, marketing and licensing the event before T.I. pulled the plug on his promise.
In total, the ATL rapper is being sued for $390,000, which is the total of the money spent on the event and T.I.’s $90,000 booking fee.

Gigi Stetler of Planet Productions spoke to HipHopDX about the cancelation, saying that the issue arose when she had expressed concern over safety following the now-infamous Irving Plaza shooting at a concert T.I. was headlining in New York in May. Stetler maintains that both she and the artist were committed to beefing up security and pressing ahead with the Florida show.
Stetler claims that she had spoken to Tip’s reps, who had assured her the rapper would be performing, when eight days out they stopped returning her calls. Stetler feels she has lost both her money and reputation as a result.
TMZ has also reported that T.I.’s team has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
