An edited video of Lil Kim saying she is a “Spanish girl trapped in a black girl’s body” posted by the @LilKimRoyal Twitter account has created a stir online.

The video shows Kim making the Spanish girl remark before continuing, “I’m all mixed up, girl.” She then bursts into a Spanish song and dance for about 20 seconds before chuckling at her own behavior.

Given that the video is awkwardly edited, and the distinct possibility that Kim wasn’t being entirely serious, you might have expected that the internet would spare her a harsh backlash. You would have expected wrong.

A quick Twitter search for Lil Kim pretty much immediately yields a trove of memes and dragging the likes of which you’d think Twitter would reserve for Rachel Dolezal.

Other commenters criticized the Twitter account for publishing the video, claiming that it makes Kim look bad when all she was doing was expressing her appreciation for a culture she grew up around. Some have also claimed that the video is from 2013.

It isn’t the first time that Kim has been questioned about her attitude toward her own blackness. The Hip Hop scene also had a lot to say earlier this year when Kim shared photos of her new look.

Miami Heat!!! ???
