The city of Miami was sent into shock with the news that Marlins star pitcher, Jose Fernandez, died in a boat accident early this morning (September 25), the Miami Herald reports. He was 24 years old.
The Marlins canceled their game tonight against the Atlanta Braves and many fans came to Marlins Park to pay tribute to the Cuban immigrant whose story brought camaraderie in the city.
There was a moment of silence held for Fernandez at MLB games across the country. Mets, Dodgers and Mariners players hung a number 16 jersey in their dugouts to pay respect to the ace.
Many in Hip Hop took to social media to pay their respects to the athlete who was known for his big heart and bright smile.
