Nelly’s debut album, Country Grammar, has become just the eighth Hip Hop album to reach diamond certification, the RIAA have announced.
The organization presented Nelly with a diamond plaque at a Musicians On Call event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night (July 25).
As previously mentioned, there have been just seven other Hip Hop albums to achieve the diamond milestone, which marks ten million records sold. In addition, four of those albums have come from two artists — Tupac and Eminem — meaning Nelly becomes just the sixth Hip Hop artist to achieve diamond status.
The other Hip Hop albums that Nelly’s Country Grammar now sits alongside are Tupac’s All Eyez On Me, Eminem’s The Eminem Show, Tupac’s Greatest Hits, Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP, OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, The Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death and MC Hammer’s Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em.
Nelly later took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion.
