A man who owns the trademark for “Respek” threatening to sue Birdman.

It was just months ago when Birdman demanded that “respek” be placed on his name, and then quickly capitalized on the word by selling t-shirts and even dropping a song.

Unfortunately for Birdman, TMZ reports that the word “Respek” was trademarked by JV, the owner of This Respek Wear clothing line, back in 2005. A description of the clothing line, which sells t-shirts, hats and other apparel, on Facebook states that “Respek is something earned not given.”

JV isn’t jumping on a lawsuit just yet, and has instead requested that Birdman call him, according to a letter his lawyer sent to the Cash Money Records co-founder.

Although his exact intent is unknown, it is possible that the This Respek Wear clothing line owner wants to speak with Birdman to discuss a share of profits.

An April interview between Birdman and the hosts of The Breakfast Club quickly went viral after he demanded that the trio “stop playing with my name.”

“I want to start this shit off straight up, stop playing with my name,” Birdman said during his interview with The Breakfast Club. “Nigga, when my name come up, respect it. Stop playing with my fucking name.”
