P.M. Dawn, one of the earlier Hip Hop acts to reach mainstream success on the alternative route, lost one of its founding members today as it’s be reported that Prince Be (born Attrell Cordes) died as a result of renal kidney disease at the age of 46.
People reports that Cordes passed away at a New Jersey hospital earlier today (June 17) and is survived by his wife Mary and three children: Christian, Mia, Brandon and his brother/former P.M. Dawn group member, DJ Minutemix (Jarrett Cordes).
Although the duo’s last released album was back in 2000, they still made a memorable impact in their earlier years; having reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1991 with their single “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” from their debut album, Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience. They are also known for their hit song, “I’d Die Without You,” which was featured in the 1992 Eddie Murphy classic Boomerang (and its soundtrack) on a pivotal part in the film.

Fans of “old school” Hip Hop will also credit the group for being one of the first acts within the culture to engage in physical beef, having been the target of KRS-One’s scorn in the early 90s.
Cordes’ cousin Doc. G. a.k.a. “Dr. Giggles” a.k.a. “Blissboy #2” would join the group in later years and sent out a tribute to his deceased kin on Facebook writing, “Prince Be Rest In Peace Forever More, Pain from diabetes can’t harm you anymore,My Heart is at Peace B-Cuz U suffered so long, Tell Grandma I said Hi & Stay Blisstatic & Strong…Love Doc.G” followed by hashtags “#pmdawn #life #music #rap #hiphopmusic #diabetes #weneedacure #fightdiabetes #family.”
