Houston, TX

The cat has been let out the bag: VH1 is taking their Love & Hip Hop talents to Houston and the crew has already swooped up some name brand talent. One of those artists, Chedda Da Connect, has no doubt in his mind that he and his city will win over any detractors of the popular reality show.

While taking time out during a presentation taping for VH1,” the rapper behind last year’s “Flicka Da Wrist” craze explains why even the country’s fourth largest city still has to show and prove for their Hip Hop respek.

“Oh, we gonna stand out,” he confidently tells HipHopDX via phone call. “We gonna do our own thing. We ain’t trying to follow no blueprint. We trying to put it in everybody face and let them know what it is, down in H-Town! Everybody feel like we slow on everything. There’s people out here getting real money out here.”

Chedda also revealed how being a fan of one of the more popular Love & Hip Hop series showed him what to do and what not to do in regards to his own casting.

“I really liked Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta; that’s the first one I checked out,” he candidly states. “But then after they started adding so many random people, it kind of got watered down a little bit. But I like everyone who started off the show at first. It was just some little entertainment to look at.”

Series creator Mona Scott-Young holds true to her show’s title by allowing renown and up-and-coming Hip Hop artists get a taste of the limelight but the “love” aspect of the program is equally important. So who will be showcased as the rib to Da Connect for Love & Hip Hop: Houston?

“I got a girl right now. I’ll probably let her appear on a couple scenes,” he said with a laugh. “Right now we branding and promoting, mane! I ain’t gonna lie: every time I see those families and relationships get on TV, there’s always a hassle. I ain’t got time to be dealing with the problems. We’ll see what’s up. [Laughs]”

Catchin Playz 3 Will Boast “More Energy Records” Like “Flicka Da Wrist”

A Billboard Hot 100 placement, a Gold plaque and millions of incalculable social media views later, “Flicka Da Wrist” opened Chedda Da Connect’s window within the rap game but also pigeonholed him a bit, thanks to striking the iron while it was hot on nationwide tours.

Upholding the banner previously lifted by the likes of Scarface, James Prince, Slim Thug and of course, Beyonce isn’t an easy task but with the forthcoming release of Catchin Playz 3, Chedda feels like he found the charm with his trilogy completing project.

“Most definitely,” he admits when asked whether or not he felt “boxed in” by the “Flicka Da Wrist” success. “When you got some music going and the machine ain’t running the music right, people be thinking that’s your only hit. And when it spreads [out] so fast, you get boxed in and it’s hard to come out of there, but we gonna come out fighting strong. Believe that. I redid my craft a lil’ bit; kind of piggybacked off ‘Flick’, what it made people get so crazy off that record. I talked to the ladies a little bit.”
