Fat Joe recently addressed the shooting that transpired at T.I.’s show at Irving Plaza in New York City on Wednesday night (May 25). During the confrontation, one man was killed and another three individuals were shot and subsequently hospitalized, one of those being Troy Ave.

The Bronx lyricist recently sat down with AllHipHop.com to discuss the shooting, an incident he calls “ironic” considering the apparent unification taking place among New York’s veteran rappers.

“The reason we did this shit [the ‘All The Way Up’ remix] was so the shit that happened last night where people got shot in the middle of a concert doesn’t happen,” Fat Joe said. “We’re trying to show people you can have your differences but it can actually end peacefully. It doesn’t have to end with death and destruction.”

On Thursday (May 26), Troy Ave was arrested and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The rapper had previously been charged with reckless endangerment after reportedly shooting himself after opening fire backstage at the show.

“That’s pretty ironic that [shooting happened] while we’re doing this symbol of unity,” Fat Joe later added. “I hope these young kids see it and follow suit. Cause ain’t nothing really worth it. You gotta understand most of us grew up in poverty with a dream and all the stripes against us. The fact we’re able to make music, make money, have fans, and make our dreams come true – we really gotta appreciate that.”

Early reports of the incident claim that Troy Ave had been in a confrontation with Maino, who performed with Uncle Murda as T.I.’s opening act. However, Maino later took to Instagram to deny any involvement in the incident.
