New Jersey native Cymarshall Law has come a long way since spending his early career under Everliven Sound. The fairly underground East Coast collective were signed to Sub Verse Music, a label co-founded by Company Flow’s Bigg Jus and former home to Blackalicious and MF Doom. Several albums later, he’s returned to the Hip Hop spotlight through Hip Hop in The Soul 3.

This will be the latest in the series since 2011’s Hip Hop in The Soul 2. Featuring lead single “We Go” with Homeboy Sandman and Toronto spitter Eternia, other guest appearances include Planet Asia and his biological brother Black Belt Poemz, who formerly went by Skit Slam during his time alongside Law with Everliven Sound.

“When I thought about people I wanted on this album, I wanted people I called friends or people I’ve respected for years,” he explained.

And, of course, the album will be solely produced by longtime collaborator Mr. Joeker.

Hip Hop in The Soul 3 comes after a hiatus where Law went through some turbulent times. Calling the album his most personal, he describes the gap as the moment he went to hell and back. “My dad died and my mom got cancer at the same time,” said Law. “Then me and my kid’s mother broke up, though we’re back together now.”

According to the New Jersey emcee, his life ran the emotional gamut of everything from depression to anger. Law hopes that all of these feelings will be felt through Hip Hop in The Soul 3.

“No shits are given,” Law added. “I’m saying all the things nobody wants to say. All that stuff I went through was just poured into this album.”

Around that time, he was also concerned with the direction Hip Hop was heading into and wasn’t sure what was happening. “I always use to be the artist who always said what he felt,” he said, “but this time, I took it to another level.”

Released through label Freedom Entertainment, Hip Hop in The Soul 3 is set to drop May 20. Cover art and tracklisting below.
