The N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton is nominated by the Producers Guild of America for its annual PGA Awards, according to Variety. The winners are to be announced at the awards ceremony held January 23 in Los Angeles.
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are nominated along with Matt Alvarez, Scott Bernstein and director F. Gary Gray for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Other films nominated are The Big Short, The Martian and The Revenant.

Variety points out that the winner of the PGA Awards for the past eight years has then won “Best Picture” by the Academy Awards. Straight Outta Compton was also nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for best performance by an ensemble, “making a strong contender for best picture Oscar recognition,” the site says.
