CeeLo Green announced earlier this month that his Mothership Entertainment Group with Sony Music. In a recent interview with Hip Hop Since 1987, the Goodie Mob singer compares himself to Puff Daddy as he enters this new venture.

“I gotta get on my Puffy kinda thing,” CeeLo Green says. “I gotta get on my shameless plug, let the people know what’s going on with me. It’s a wonderful opportunity that Sony gave me.”

The Heart Blanche musician says that Sony Music CEO Doug Morris came to him with a specific agenda.

“He said to me that, ‘I want to be responsible for the resurgence of Soul music,'” Cee Lo says. “He said, ‘Not Neo-Soul, but Soul.’ I’m talking about who’s gonna be the next Otis Redding, the next Etta James, the next Little Richard, if there is one, if there is such a thing? He said, ‘I believe that if you say that you’ve gone forward and prepare a place for these people, that they’ll come.'”
