Atlanta rapper TIP is one of a handful of familiar names linked to the new Roots mini-series, which will air on A&E in the future. TIP will star in the film, while another musician linked to the movie, Questlove, will serve as Executive Music Producer.

The Southern wordsmith has been featured in a number of films, including Ant-Man and Get Hard.

According to Indiewire, the mini-series will consist of four, two hour-long episodes, which will each air on a different night.

Other actors who have been recruited for the film include Anika Noni Rose, Derek Luke, Forest Whitaker, and Mekhi Phifer.

Two of the most well-known roles in the series, the roles of Kunta Kinte and Chicken George, will be played by two newcomers who were handpicked following a global search. Those newcomers are Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean Page.

Production is currently underway for Roots. It’s unclear when the mini-series, which is based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel of the same name, will air on A&E.
