Dee-1 released the cover art for his forthcoming Separated At Birth mixtape today (September 9).

The New Orleans rapper provided insight regarding the creation of the project in the caption that accompanies the cover art.

#SeparatedAtBirth Mixtape drops Sept 15th!” Dee-1 wrote on Instagram. “All i know is hip hop. It raised me! But my life experiences led me to get in this game for a very specific reason, which is different than most. I think we are numb and desensitized to many things we shouldn’t be. I also think we need answers & solutions in hip hop. The 1st is great music, but the 2nd is honesty about where we stand and why we’re here. We need to redefine “realness.” So i put a dope tape together. You’ll see…#SeparatedAtBirth Sept 15th. Get ready.#MissionVision#3sUp .”

Dee-1 is set to release his Separated At Birth mixtape September 15, according to a press release.

The New Orleans rapper started rapping because of fellow Louisianan Lil Wayne. But while they share a hometown, Dee-1 and Lil Wayne rap about different subject matter.

“Dee-1 takes issue with Wayne glorifying a lot of negativity that has a negative impact on the culture,” the press release says. “Dee-1 notes that although they may be entertaining, a lot of Wayne’s more aggressive lyrics are fiction. On this mixtape, Dee-1 takes classic and recent Lil Wayne beats and creatively flips Wayne’s concepts 180 degrees to contribute a different perspective on hip hop.”

Separated At Birth is set to include the Dee-1 single “Tha Block Is Hot,” which is the name of Lil Wayne’s 1999 album and is available on HipHopDX.

In 2010, Dee-1 released his “Jay, 50, and Weezy” single, a cut where he imagined a conversation he would have with each artist. But rather than just asking to be signed to their respective companies, Dee-1 complimented each rapper before pointing out ways they could help their respective communities specifically and the rap community in general.
