A$AP Rocky’s music has long been influenced by Houston culture and legendary Southern rap group UGK, as evident on the track “Wavybone” off his At. Long. Last. A$AP album. The song features UGK and a previously-unreleased verse from the late Pimp C.

To further show his appreciation, the Harlem, New York rapper says he plans on assisting Chinara Butler, Pimp C’s widow, on the UGK member’s upcoming posthumous album, Long Live The Pimp.

“I have to,” Rocky says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX at the celebration of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5. “It’s my duty, 100 percent. As much inspiration, as many times I done said that man’s name on record, it’s the least I can do. For anybody. It’s not even just because I, you know, tit for tat. It’s just out my heart. It’d be my honor to be a part of that. That would be a great accomplishment for me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Lord Pretty Flacko gives credit to his peers Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, Tyler, The Creator and Joey Bada$$ for creating what he considers good projects and also shares how he feels about the current state of Hip Hop after calling it a laughing stock last year.

I felt like the majority of it is like predominantly gimmicky, but that’s with anything,” the rapper says. “I feel like with anything with no personal value or sacrifice or cherishing, none of that, if it doesn’t apply to what you’re doing, then it’s really just bullshit. So no disrespect to the people making 10-times more money as me, but I hate your fucking songs.”

Rocky also details his and Tyler, The Creator’s upcoming “Rocky & Tyler” Tour and his decision to go on tour with the Cherry Bomb rapper.

“I just wanted to bring Tyler on tour with me,” he says of the “Rocky & Tyler” tour, which is set to kick off September 19 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts. “Tyler to me, in my eyes, is a young legend, a well-respected creator. He’s himself. He’s a weirdo goofball. I respect him. I fuck with him for that. That muthafucka cracks me up and I respect his art, his vision a lot more. Muthafuckas ain’t fucking with it, so it’s just love and respect to anybody creative at this point because it’s not a lot out there. He’s definitely creative. Him and a lot of his boys. I can say that. Shout outs to Earl.”

In addition to an upcoming tour with Tyler, The Creator, Footlocker has announced A$AP Rocky as the face of adidas Original’s Three Stripes’ Tubular Runner S sneaker campaign in a teaser released showing off the sneaker yesterday (August 23). Details on the release of the Tubular Runner S sneaker have yet to be announced.
