The White House has removed a petition from its We the People page asking President Barack Obama to use his executive powers to force Kanye West to release his forthcoming SWISH album.
“Kanye West has kept us thirsty for too long,” the petition read, according to Billboard. “We haven’t gotten any new singles in months. The President should order Ye to drop the album on the date August 21st, as his producer Mike Dean has been teasing people about.”
The petition reportedly gathered tens of thousands of signatures in a short space of time, however it was taken down yesterday afternoon (August 12) after The White House stated that it was in violation of We the People’s Terms of Participation and was removed under the Moderation Policy, according to Billboard.
Although the petition claimed that Mike Dean alluded to an August 21 release date, it’s worth noting that the producer never formally made an explicit announcement. In a newly-published interview with Montreality, Dean said that the album is “just in progress,” and that “whenever Kanye says it’s done, it’s done.”
