AD says he hopes to be next in line to hold the torch for the Compton music scene. At the Art of Rap concert earlier this month, AD expressed his appreciation for the city’s history, including Mausberg, a rapper died before he received any mainstream recognition.

“One of my favorite songs is ‘Get Nekkid’ and stuff like that,” he says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “Compton from the beginning just been evolving. I’m blessed to be adding my name to that list of greats.”

Fellow Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar sampled Mausberg’s “Get Nekkid” on “King Kunta” from To Pimp a Butterfly.

Art of Rap featured historic Hip Hop acts including Bone thugs-n-harmony, Ice-T, Slick Rick, Warren G and Xzibit, who brought out AD to perform.

“This is just dope, you know what I mean?” AD says. “A lot of the people that I used to listen to and still listen to today, sharing the stage with them, it’s just like, it’s a dream come true for me.”

AD says that he is currently working on the “Juice” remix. He says it will feature Game, Ty Dolla $ign and others.
