As a former prisoner at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, Maino offered a unique perspective on this month’s prison escape from Clinton Correctional Facility, during a recent appearance on CNN.

According to the Brooklyn, New York rapper, from his experience at the prison, such an escape seems fantasy-like or something “out of the movies.” He then went on to explain that there was hardly ever any alone time while at Clinton Correctional Facility.

“From my perspective, that’s like a super-max prison,” Maino said. “And escaping is usually a fantasy. So, we talking about something that seems like out of the movies. That’s a fantasy. That’s something that we don’t usually see. We don’t usually encounter stuff like that. We talking about, out of New York state, over 70 prisons, that’s one of the [most] secure…You’re never really alone to be able to move around to get free…I thought it was interesting when I saw the report yesterday that this happened. The first thing it reminded me of was Shawshank Redemption.”

Maino went on to state that he’s unaware of any place the two prisoners could have hid the power tools they reportedly used in their escape. He also shared his thoughts on the possibility of the two men receiving help from a female security guard.

“There’s no place to hide that,” the rapper said, when asked about possible places to hide power tools. “See, this is where it becomes movie-like…Yes, I encountered female guards, but I never felt like—I always felt like maybe they had a not so much of a pro-inmate attitude. Plus, I was there at a time when I was very young. I was a child. So, I don’t think I encountered any female officer or any kind of officer like that that would make me feel like they were like that.”
