Slum Village is gearing up to release its forthcoming album, Yes, and recently stopped through HipHopDX’s headquarters to talk about it.

T3 says the group is more focused on how they’re going to release future work rather than getting it out to all fans digitally and quickly.

“Slum Village, we’re going back. Digital don’t hurt or help us. It’s cool to have it but we’re going back though. We’re making classic pieces now,” he said via a segment of today’s (June 9) DX Daily. “We’re doing box sets, we’re doing one-of-a-kind items so we see our music like museum pieces now. We don’t do it just to do it no more. You know what I’m saying? When we did the [J.] Dilla box set, that’s one of a kind. You’re never going to see this again. That’s the type of joints we going to do. It’s less about the music and more about the legacy of how we present the music. That’s what it’s going back to.”

T3 also expressed his excitement that vinyl is selling more rapidly as of late and says Slum Village’s next work will be catered more toward “collectors.”

“People buying vinyl again,” he said. “It’s hard getting vinyl. You have to wait, like 12 weeks. You used to be able to get vinyl in a month. That’s what we’re going to do, drop it on vinyl. People are buying vinyl again… It’s like, you’ve heard all the music that Slum can do. You already know that shit. It’s about the collectors now.” T3 ended by explaining that focusing on releasing music in a physical form makes it more timeless. Slum’s last release was Evolution in 2013.
