XXL has compiled a list of “6 Weak Excuses Used By Rappers.”

Rick Ross’s apology after his lyrics on Rocko’s 2013 song “U.O.E.N.O.” were interpreted as suggesting rape is featured on XXL’s list.

“Woman is the most precious gift known to man,” he said in a statement issued at the time. “And there was a misunderstanding with a lyric…a misinterpretation where the term rape was–wasn’t used. I would never use the term rape, you know, in my lyrics. And as far as my camp, Hip Hop don’t condone that. The streets don’t condone that. Nobody condones that.”

Rick Ross lost his Reebok endorsement deal, among other things, because of the backlash his lyrics created.

Lil Wayne switching allegiance from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks when the Texas team won the NBA title in 2011 led to the excuse that was included on XXL’s list.

“Y’all know I’m a Laker fan,” the rapper said to XXL after photos surfaced of Wayne with Mavericks players and its owner the night the team defeated the Miami Heat for the NBA title. “They knocked my Lakers out pretty terribly. So, you know, I’m coming from the old school. I’m old-fashioned. Can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”
