In a series of tweets sent yesterday (May 17), journalist/social activist dream hampton shared a bit of unknown news about Jay Z and Beyonce. According to hampton, the couple has been silently donating thousands of dollars to protesters in both Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland.

She revealed that when she approached Jay Z about financial assistance for protesters, the Brooklyn, New York rapper wired money to her within minutes.

“I’m going to tweet this and I don’t care if Jay gets mad. When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protesters, I asked hit Jay up, as I had for Ferguson, wired tens of thousands in mins,” dream hampton tweeted yesterday.

In addition to donating bail money for protesters, Hampton says the Carters also donated to the Black Lives Matter movement, and have requested that “folks keep quiet” about their financial contributions.

“When BLM needed infrastructure money for the many chapters that we’re growing like beautiful dandelions, Carters wrote a huge check…and more stuff, too much to list actually, that they always insist folk keep quiet,” she said.

In addition to penning stories for The Village Voice, Spin magazine, and other publications, hampton served as collaborator/ghostwriter for Jay Z’s “Decoded.”
