Shortly after it was announced that the death of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore, Maryland man whose spine was severed following an arrest, had been ruled a homicide, a number of members of the Hip Hop community turned to Twitter to share their thoughts on the breaking news.
West Coast wordsmith MC Ren spoke on there being “some justice” while Talib Kweli tweeted about Gray being murdered while in police custody.
“#FreddieGray had a LEGAL blade. Arrested illegally. Murdered in police custody,” Kweli tweeted earlier today (May 1).

Jamla Records artist Rapsody was one of several to offer praise to Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore City State’s Attorney, via Twitter.
Earlier today, shortly after receiving the medical examiner’s report, Mosby charged six Baltimore police officers with murder and manslaughter.
Other artists who reacted to the news include Jean Grae, Bun B, Kid Cudi, and MC Hammer. Their tweets can be found below (via XXLMag.com).
So we have charges filed in the death of Freddie Gray. Now we pray for the judicial system to do its party. State’s attorney ain’t playing.
