Mobile, Alabama rapper The Last Mr. Bigg died in his sleep yesterday (April 29), according to AL.com.
Donald Maurice Pears b.k.a. The Last Mr. Bigg, released two albums on Warlock Records, Only If You Knew in 2000 and The Mask Is Off in 2003. Within the region, The Last Mr. Bigg was among the most popular independent acts.
In 2005, he collaborated with Three 6 Mafia on the hit single “Poppin My Collar.”
The Last Mr. Bigg was also featured in a 2010 gun violence documentary Number One With A Bullet. He discussed being shot in the head and losing his eye.
Due to his replacement prosthetic, he picked up a second moniker, DiamondEye.
Rich Boy, another Mobile, Alabama native took to Twitter to share his condolences.
“R.I.P to The Last Bigg …. The FIRST Artist I heard people bumping in the Streets where I’m from ….. ALABAMA…,” he wrote.
The Last Mr. Bigg is believed to have been in his early 40s.
