With the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday March in Selma, Alabama having taken place over the weekend, a number of artists from the Hip Hop community turned to social media to offer their thoughts on the anniversary of the historic march.
Among those who addressed the anniversary via Twitter and Instagram were Fabolous, Talib Kweli, and Russell Simmons.
“I only respect the GENERALS who have been in the field with the SOLDIERS,” Fabolous wrote in a caption for a picture of President Barack Obama, the First Family, Representative John Lewis, and hundreds of others marching in Selma over the weekend.

Crooner John Legend, who along with Common won an Oscar for Best Original Song for their contribution to the film Selma, praised President Obama’s speech in Selma over the weekend.
“YouTube the President’s speech if you didn’t just watch it live. It really was special. #Selma50,” Legend tweeted on March 7.
In addition to President Obama, others present in Selma over the weekend were civil rights leader John Lewis, 103-year-old, civil rights activist Amelia Boynton Robinson, and former president George W. Bush.

Lewis was one of nearly 600 civil rights marchers who took part in the Bloody Sunday March on March 7, 1965. Robinson was also present during Bloody Sunday, and was beaten unconscious during the march.
