Common and John Legend received the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 87th Annual Academy Awards last night (February 22) in Hollywood, California. Their song “Glory” from the film Selma, beat the likes of The Lego Movie’s “Everything Is Awesome,” “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” the soundtrack for the picture Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me, as well as “Lost Stars” fromBegin Again.
Acting as just the third award given to a Hip Hop song in the category, various artists took to social media following the news to react to the accolade and to offer their congratulations to Common, John Legend and the record’s co-writer Rhymefest.
