Dr. Dre has signed a new artist.
Garland, TX native Justin Mohrle has recently been added to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment, reports D Magazine.
According to a new profile piece published by the Dallas-based publication, Dre discovered the 23-year-old white rapper after he heard a demo he made with the assistance of The D.O.C.
Since Morhle arrived in California, he’s been spending his time in 13-hour writing and recording sessions at the iconic producer’s go-to studio, Record One.
“JT and I worked on a couple songs; Dre fell in love with the songs; Dre stole the songs from the kid, because he wanted to put them out as a unit,” The D.O.C. told the magazine. “That’s the way this house is rolling. We’re all putting our energy toward building another classic for The Good Doctor. Then he’s going to take his time to help us build a classic for the youngster.”
Though he won’t be releasing any new music until Christmas, Mohrle says he’s worked with King Mez, BJ The Chicago Kid and Gwen Stefani.
For now, he’s reveling in the moment, but the young rapper understands the possibility of what fame may bring.
“With the situation I’m in, Dre could decide to drop a track tomorrow, and then I might not be able to ever go to the mall again like this. By myself,” he said.
