Ma$e was one of Hip Hop music’s hottest artists toward the end of the new millennium. A lot of his fame came after replacing The Notorious B.I.G. (after he passed away) as Bad Boy’s most coveted artist. And he was for a while. The Harlem native’s debut album Harlem World was generally well received by critics and fans and soared to the top of the charts upon its release.
Nearly two decades later, Ma$e has been trying to make a comeback in Hip Hop after spending years as a pastor. In honor of the 17th anniversary of Harlem World’s drop, which occurred earlier this week (October 28), Grantland listed the “24 Guiding Lessons for a Perfect Life, According to Mase’s ‘Harlem World.'”
The list recalls many memorable lines from the album. Everything from “How to Take Pride in your Personal Appearance” (as exemplified on the line, “And brush my waves so I’m handsome when the bitches greet me,” from “Take What’s Yours”) to “How to Be the Best at Being Petty” (e.g.: “Man who needs ya? You don’t need me, I don’t need you neither,” from “Wanna Hurt Mase?”) is featured.

The problem I was having before I listened to Harlem World was that thugsliked me, but they didn’t love me. But then after I heard this song, I knew what the problem was: I had zero guns by my penis. You want thugs to love you? Put a gun by your penis or vagina. That’s the first place they’re going to look for it. It’s like a secret handshake, except with your genitals. It’s all very complicated.
