Kanye West’s father used to be a paparazzi, according to TMZ.

“My father was a paparazzo himself,” the Chicago rapper-producer reportedly said to the attorney of Daniel Ramos, the paparazzi member with whom West was involved in a July 2013 altercation at Los Angeles airport.

West also allegedly told Ramos’ attorney that his parents did not raise him to “be out here wrestling with random paparazzi in front of LAX,” TMZ says.

In March, West pled no contest to misdemeanor battery regarding the incident.

West was shown on video trying to take a camera from a photographer who spoke to West as the rapper exited the airport.

The rapper-producer was charged with battery and attempted grand theft. The latter charge was dismissed as part of his plea.

In March, West was placed on 24 months probation and was ordered to attend 24 therapy sessions for anger management. He must complete 250 hours of community service and pay for the damage to the photographer’s equipment. If West does not violate his probation, the case will likely be removed from his record.
