50 Cent Says Jay Z Can't Compare To Eminem, "Hip Hop Is Black Music"

"For some people," 50 Cent says, "it's tough to accept that you have a White artist that does it better than Black artists."

50 Cent says that Eminem is one of his best friends and that the Detroit rapper’s talent makes some people uncomfortable.

“Hip Hop is Black music, without question, and, unfortunately for some people, it’s tough to accept that you have a White artist that does it better than Black artists,” 50 Cent says during an interview with Music Choice. "It is what it is. You can get like whoever you think is the best Black artist and stand them face-to-face in a room with Em and he will eat that [guy] alive. Right now if you had 'em prepare themselves, whatever way they would have to prepare themselves to come battle…I bet what I have, everything” that Eminem would win.

50 Cent also says that Eminem has surpassed Jay Z and that the two were paired for 2010 concerts because of Jay Z’s business commitments.

“That’s Live Nation ‘cause [Jay Z] sold his touring career to Live Nation,” 50 Cent says, referring to Jay Z’s reported $150 million pact with Live Nation that was signed in 2008. "They’ve got to keep him hot enough to go get their money back. So they match ‘em up with Em, put them together ‘cause he got more momentum connected to his relationship with Beyonce and his record with Alicia. It makes sense. It makes sense, the Detroit/New York show.  But it only makes sense to me because of business, it makes sense, because Em sold like 60 million records more than him. How you put ‘em there like they’re equals? It’s tough for me to say some of this [stuff] and not sound like a hater. But I don’t care.”

In June, 50 Cent appeared on an episode of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live50 Cent mentioned Jay Z when he was asked who he thinks is the "most overrated Hip Hop star of all time." "Overrated?" 50 said. "Jay Z. He would say he's overrated. 'Rather be overrated than underpaid.'"

In his response, 50 Cent is likely referencing Jay Z's verse on Kanye West's "So Appalled." On the track, Jay says, "I went from the favorite to the most hated, But would you rather be underpaid or overrated?"

I never could stand Eminem. His music is plain old garbage. Basically making a career off of dissing on other pop stars when he's basically a fuckin' pop star himself! He's gotta go down as one of the corniest rappers of all time! I can't believe how popular this clown became. He doesn't have any classic hip-hop material and shouldn't even be mentioned as a "hip-hop" artist to be honest. His music is all corny pop-rap garbage. Even the wack ass "Lose Yourself" is laughable and corny as hell. FUCK all of his fanatical fans too. Truth hurts.

  • stfuuignants

50 has beefed with or had words for every friend and associate he has ever had (including Mayweather his "little brother", every single member of the original G-unit and Dr. Dre...everyone except Eminem. I wonder why?

  • Gabe Welborn

Its not eminems color on what makes him, him it his lyrical words that took over hip hop jay z will NEVER be as great em is. It disgusts me too here people compare eminem to jay z, eminem can spit better and he can write better. Oh and come to me when jay z can spit 6.5 words a secound, and let me remind you that it WAS a FREESTYLE. It goes Em,Pac,Nas,Jay

"It’s tough for me to say some of this [stuff] and not sound like a hater. But I don’t care.”-- All this dude does is hate. Em' may have sold more records than Jay, but Jay sold more than 50.-Also, Jay is probably the face of hip hop over the last 15 years. When it comes to trend setting "Crisp Jeans and a Button Up"..."All Black" "D.O.A." "Ace Of Spades"..the list goes on and on...it's Jay that the industry mimics.

There's a lot of ppl rating rappers on the way they enjoy their music....I dislike most of the top sportsmen (teams) cause that's just the way it is...you want to see them dethroned, but still don't mean they not nr 1 Heres the list, and it will take a helluva lot get in there for future rappers: Pac Big Nas Em Jay

Honestly, to dude that brought up album sales. Em will win that shit hands down everytime. He's an amazing WHITE rapper. When he came out with the support of Dr Dre niggas automatically gave him a chance and white America had been craving for him since Vanilla Ice. It's like this. When you have a fanbase with a majority of white people supporting you, buying your music instead of bootlegging it, throw in a bunch of black people that like you as well, you're gonna move major units. Do you really think Obama would've became president without a majority of white people voting for him? I think yall get my point here. If not, I'll be back to elaborate. As far as 50 cent goes. Is it envy that Jay Z more relevant than you after all these years without constantly thrusting himself into the publics face anyway he can? via IG, FB, Twitter, dressing in a wig as Curly (whoever).

  • utv

dont get mw wrong em's good real good, but the dude raps bout crazy shit in im a white dude, for me jay does it better and 50cent is one wack ass rapper

  • Five 0 always salty bout some crab shit

50 has to be the most bitter dude in the history of hip hop.Always has been jealous that Jays records are relevant and 50's music is limited and at this point garbage. All the social media interaction in the world can get you mentions and views but it won't make anybody fiend for your music with the exception of his die hard stans who refuse to let go because admitting it would make them irrelevant as well.Jay is an excellent business man and a good rapper who makes decent music and is still capable of making his album releases an event.Fif is on the shelf and it kills him inside cause at the end of the day you had to sell your soul and get G unit together again after he swore they were done to ignite and kind of buzz.

Reading the comment section is entertaining. Eminem is the best MAINSTREAM rapper out there right now, However, i disagree that he is the best. would you say that Elvis is the best? no, you would definitely say he is one of the greatest there was. It depends on the generation. we could argue until the moon explodes and we still won't settle any arguments. I learned over the years that there is always someone better than myself, but sometimes we may not get the same chances to prove that. Have anyone heard RA the rugged man or diabolic? both are white rappers who technically are really good, but they're not selling millions, like EMiNEM. sales is not the best way to say that someone is better than the other. it does say that he is more popular than the other guy. Skills does not necessarily included in that. Therefore, to say that Eminem is the best, technically is a blatant lie, but that goes for even Tupac or Biggie, however, i would say he is the MOST SUCCESSFUL rapper there is. Eminem does have an advantage of being white. It helps. let's not lie to ourselves that that isn't true, to an extend. Michael Jackson when it comes to his music prowess and ability is better than Eminem but Em outsold him. Sixto Rodriguez was a better lyricist than Bob Dylan but wasn't famous (google searching for Sugar man) A band called death with all black members in the 60s that apparently started punk music in the hood but couldn't go anywhere because they were in a black neighborhood unlike Jimi Hendrix who only got famous in the UK because the US rejected him. So technical skills plays a role in music but doesn't mean you will be famous for it. although, eminem was different in 1997-1998. he rapped a whole different content than the typical black mainstream black rappers did. Eminem newer lyrics have lazy metaphors and similes that sounds forced, very kiddish, i expect better quality from the man who had such a versatile skill in rap. Did he change? yeah, he did, and he's still famous for it. If he was black, let's just say, nobody would care for him, but if he was black and given the same chance as he did, he would still be big, but not as rich, unless he does business like Jay-Z or Dr.Dre.

Wow you have too much time on your hands my sister. You need to get a J.O.B 50 Cent is a very bitter man.

  • Jaykk

Fifty may not be the same force he was all those years ago but hes really mellowed into an old head of hip hop, which is kinda cool As usual he is on point with his remarks, and Jay Zs stans are in the corner denying the facts and throwing a tantrum as I write this lol

Don't hate Eminem is the best lyrical rapper The Eminem show? MMLP? both those albums are crazy and might be top albums of all time don't hate don't hate don't hate Jay Z is a great rapper but not better than Eminem

  • Anonymous

eminem is the most overrated rapper ever. not his lyrics; it's his music. that shit is horrible. i give credit, marshall mathers cd was great. but none of eminem albums stack up to reasonable doubt, blueprint or even volume 2. i mean, this is nothing more than 50 trolling jay z again. the same stuff that is doing to mayweather right now.

BSICALLY ITS LIKE THIS LARRY BIRD IS GREAT AND A LEGEND AND ONLY FEW PLAYERS IN THE LEAUGE WAS IN HIS LANE MAGIC JOHSON WAS THE GREATEST UNTIL JORDAN CAME AND AMILLION OTHER NICE NIGGAZ IN THE SAME LANE DOING THE SAME SHIT BUT THERE COULD ONLY BE ONE JORDAN SAYING THAT JAY AND 90% IS IN THE SAME LANE AS FAR AS CONTEXT AND DIPICTION EMINEM IS OFF IN THE CORNER MAKING RAPS ABOUT PILLS DEVIL WORSHIP AND DUM SHIT HOW COULD HE BE BETTER THAN A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO RAPP ABOUT 2 DIFFERENT THINGS REAL SHIT FIEND SHIT

  • DGG

People always say "Eminem's lyrics dont make sense at all" Man he is not the only one, Redman, Busta Rhymes has some songs that don't make sense, MF DOOM, like is a style and if you do pay attention to them they will make sense, because these rappers make more complex lyrics and you dont understand them at first doesnt mean they dont make sense, a lot of new rappers make some lyrics that are really simple

  • RadioRaheim

If you use "Jays Consistency" as an argument, then there are flaws. While there are songs from Em i didnt care for. There were plenty from Jay that i just couldnt stand. Jays albums after hard knock life were a steep decline in quality. Calling them classics dont make them classics. You know whats classic? 2 diamond albums that fuckin qualifies as classic. Only a person that takes a good look at Jays track record would scream consistent. If you mean hes been playing 500 ball then yeah thats consistency......but its not consistency in greatness, thats the difference. The one battle he had that counted, he lost. Say what you want, he LOST! Jay has club bangers. But what are club bangers when compared to album sales? By album sales alone you should know who has the most classics. Im from the Stuy and i will tell you straight up this whole thing is a mute point. Because the schools of Jay and Em have different creeds. While there are True Jay fans that are about being lyrical. They are the minority. Most of Jay's fans are hype beasts, they like the "cool factor" Jay brings to the table. Put on a fitted and throw a diamond up and just make sure you can recite one of his slickest rhymes and boom you a Jay fan. Em fans are inherently different. A lot of them not the coolest niggaz in the bunch but just appreciate the lyricism and how em manages to do that and make it comical and not take himself that seriously. Some of them are middle america white kids in 98 that would have never heard rap if it wasnt for him. But now that they know about it, take the art of it far more serious than ive seen black people take it these days. Guess what im saying is those two groups are talking to the wall with this debate

    • Anonymous

      @RadioRaheim word! i sign that

    • RadioRaheim

Im saying straight up they arent classics. Be honest i didnt even like blue print and didnt like the black album but thats just me. The sales clearly show differently. Reasonable doubt was Jays best album. But Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP and even Eminem show were great albums. Marshall Mathers LP in my opinion was better than all of Jays albums. The shit was how an album should be done. People that say Em doesnt know how to make an album have no idea what their talking about. Ems strength is making albums. Club bangers is where Em always falls short, which i doubt he cares about. Its only recently where ems albums have lacked the album feel to me. But id say the same thing about Jay, that nigga Jay has put out some of the Laziest albums ive ever heard for somebody that supposed to be the caliber people want him to be. His album last year, was like a whack party that you cant complain about cuz it was free. Either way all of this is subjective though. Because you ask a Jay fan and hell say those albums were classics. Just like youll ask an Em fan and theyll say Slim Shady LP, Mathers LP, and Eminem Show were classics. As far as consistency from Jay i personally have never really seen it. Same thing with his growth. Whether hes gloating about his grind in youth, to his movement in the 2000s, to his family man/sinatra status hes got going on. Its still gloating, thats not really growth. He talks the same stuff just like any other rapper. Em too except he actually did get personal in his songs. We used to knock him for getting at his moms but he put that out there, his baby moms, his drug problem etc. You cant say thats not growth. But at the same time he still spits that irreverent shit hes always done. So growth is also subjective. I think we also confuse Jays career with Jay as an artist. He made some great and some shady business decisions. But a lot of that stuff is seperated from the Rap Game. One thing ive noticed with em, is that almost all of his money comes from rap. Not clothes, not liqour, not shoes. Just the genre itself, aint nobody wearing that whack ass Shady clothing lol. The dude makes his money from music, producing, his radio station, his artists/record label. Dude even looked to create a rap battle league. Whether we liked it or not doesnt matter. The dude always showed rap respect. All he cares about is rap as an art form. I aint never seen him hop on a DJ khaled track, which alone should give that nigga a crown. The only other rapper off the top that has a respectable rap career like that is Nas.

    • the future

So you are saying that Blueprint, Black Album, & AG aren't classics? Yes. Vol. 3 and Dynasty were a step down from his first two albums, but I would say he rebounded pretty well. Em is a legend no doubt, lyrically he's in the top 5 and has great accolades. But can you honestly say that Em's best album or even his best two albums are better then Jay's Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint??? You can't. Jay has been more consistent then Em and has shown more growth within his music. Where Em gets props (and well deserved) is he's still in top form lyrically and still has an ability to make consistent hits. But overall career Jay get's that nod.

    • Nelson

"Im from the Stuy and i will tell you straight up this whole thing is a mute point. Because the schools of Jay and Em have different creeds." - Hell yes, true. "But now that they know about it, take the art of it far more serious than ive seen black people take it these days. Guess what im saying is those two groups are talking to the wall with this debate" - This right here, sad but true. Right on bro, made some good points.

ya'll hit in the head with a brick if u think jay z is better than eminem. jay z used to be a good rapper. he's falling into 2014 kinda rap now... song dnt gotta make sense as long as it makes them money.

  • Big 18th Street Gang, E'z up!

Jay-Z, Eminem and 50Cent are cock eaters.

  • BlackThought

Jay hasn't been good since Timbaland stopped producing for him and he ran out of Biggie's rhymes. Just sayin'. Ask any real hip hop fan and they'll tell you The Blueprint was his best album of all time, and that Eminem murdered him on that shit (Renegade.)

    • the future

That's debatable. A lot of hip hop heads say Reasonable Doubt (pre-Timbo). What about Black Album? Or AG. If that's your argument. How many classics do you feel Em has (in your opinion)? Also, does Em's best two albums match up with Jay's best two. Lastly, Does Em best work have the same replay value that Jay's does?

"Do you fools listen to music, or do you just skim through it?" Jay is better...reason why? Albums. Period. Dude can put together cohesive albums. He's also the most versatile rapper. He teeters the line between street and mainstream, although more the latter as of late. People are quick to bring up Renegade as an argument. Only difference between the two was cadence. Em chose to ride the hi-hat; Jay chose the guitar riff. If you disect them both, they both said some real shit. Em had more shock value, like he always does, but the truth in Jay's lines can't be understated. In this manila envelope the results of my insanity Quack said I crossed the line between real life and fantasy Can it be the same one on covers with Warren Buffett Was ducking the undercovers, was warring with motherfuckers? Went from warring to Warren, undercovers to covers If you believe in that sort of luck your screws need adjusting In the world of no justice and black ladies on the back of buses I'm the immaculate conception of rappers-slash-hustlers My God it's so hard to conceive But it all falls perfect I'm like autumn is to trees The doc interrupted, he scribbled a prescription for some Prozac He said: "take that for your muster, boy You must be off your rocker If you think you'll make it off the strip before they 'Pac ya Nigga you gotta be psychotic Or mixing something potent with your vodka It takes a lot to shock us But you being so prosperous is preposterous How could this nappy headed boy from out the projects Be the apple of America's obsession? You totally disconnected with reality Don't believe in dreams Since when did black men become kings" Eminiem, while lyrically gifted, HAS NEVER, said anything so meaniningful, with the exception of Stan. He may be able to out-battle anyone, but putting together a cohesive albums of songs isn't his stregnth. That's what makes Jay better.

    • the future

Great points. Everyone likes to bring up Em's verse on Renegade but Em was killing everyone back then. You can even make the argument that he got Biggie on his verse on Dead Wrong. The only thing I would disagree with you with, is that Stan was the only song Em has said anything on. If you go through his catalogue Em has always had two or three songs per album in which he got more introspective and personal. For Example: SSLP- If I Had MMLP- Stan (as you mentioned), The Way I Am TES- Cleaning out my closet, White America, Sing For a Moment, Til I Collapse Encore- Mosh (one of my personal favorites) Relapse- Beautiful, Recovery- Not Afraid, When It's Over MML2- So Far

Jay is cool, but that man Em is a different kind of beast. Fif is absolutely right in this one, even though i know part of him wants to make trouble.

  • GLDMSK

50 is using faulty logic... That's like saying McDonald's makes the best hamburgers... or Bud Light is the best tasting beer in the country because they sell more product... Red Hot Chili Peppers sold more music than George Clinton...does that make RHC funkier? Kenny G sold music more than John Coltrane...does that make him the better jazz artist? Just like a lot of readers here, 50's perspective is always filtered through capitalism, meaning, in their mind, if it sells more, its gotta be better, right? GTFOH... If thats the case, 50 need to stand up for Vanilla Ice too, cuz Mr. Ice Ice Baby still has the all time biggest selling rap record of all time!

    • the future

Great points. 50 is playing both sides of the coin. If he wants to compare Em's success over Jay by record sales, then we can say Jay is better then 50 due to sales? However, whenever he compares to himself to Jay he always says that his first two albums outsold Jay's entire catalogue up into '05 (when 50's second album dropped). Then he says that he can't compete with Jay now because of the Beyonce factor? The funny thing is he never mentioned or gives credit to how Jay has helped Beyonce? He never brings up that part of 50 early success was due to Dre & Em. The biggest producer and the biggest artist out at the time pushing you. All jay had was Dame, Biggs, Clark Kent & Irv Gotti on his side. He had to break down so many doors to get to where he's at!

    • Yo

There is a flaw in your logic. The people get to choose what they buy, when a rap artist can sell the most amount of product over another artist, it shows that more people liked that product(the album). It's your opinion to state who's is beter, sure, but the majority of our population would stae that eminem is better. Again, to have the top selling albums in the country is a great feat. And you bring up mcdonalds, sure their quality lacks, however, everyone goes to mcdonalds. I bet you eat more mcdonald's burgers than you eat any other kind of burgers in a year. Something has tobe good for mcdonalds to keep bringing customers back. Like Isaid, your logic is flawed.

    • pablo

but that wasnt the basis of his argument. yes he does say he sold more records, but he also has other points. read the whole article. eminem is still the greatets

    • blkmoves

You said that perfect. I'm going to add to it by saying his view is jaded even further by the fact that EM gave him his start and he's grateful for that.

"Jay hasn't been good in years" Neither has Eminem. They have two different styles. I really can't stand Eminem's which is more comical and emotional and based on one liners. He's one of the most skilled and successful, but if don't like his music. Forget race. I don't like his music. I don't sympathize with his gay bashing, women bashing, drug problems or failed romances. And for anyone who says Jay Z isn't arguably the greatest rapper: I Jack/ I Rob/ I sin, Ah man, I'm Jackie Robinson Except when I run base, I dodge the pen

    • prof

That was sick lyrically! Ill bet some zipperhead isn't even going to get this metaphoric delivery. Youd have to have some sembleance of intellect to understand him. He and Em are waaaaay different lyrically. You have to be able to fully appreciate both styles to be able to judge them fairly. They are both excellent in their own styles of delivery. Body of work, Id give the edge to Jay. Em could easily surpass that though. imo, he hasn't yet though. Ive been a hip hop head since folks were fighting over which was the first rap song, King Tim III, or Rappers Delight. LOL. Yeah, pushing 50.

That made no sense whatsoever. Remind me what jay z raps about and explain how it's better, at no point in your comment did you make even the slightest argument worth anyone's time

  • Brax

Man, I don't even give a fuck about rap like this but you have to be fucking KIDDING me when you guys talk about Eminem not being one of the greatest. You're no less of a rap fan or a black man if you respect Eminem's talent. Every rapper that has ever tried to talk shit to Eminem has gotten chewed up, swallowed, then regurgitated and was never the same again. Jay-Z is a great business man and yes, a great rapper, but his lyrics compare nothing to Eminem. And just listen to Eminem's freestyle album if you don't believe me, that's just him going off the top and its album worthy. The dude is unbelievable. I'm not a fan of his new shit all that much but rhyme or reason and brainless were lyrically brilliant, the flows in those songs put almost all of Jay-Z's songs to shame. You guys sound like morons when you talk about white people and slavery in relation to a white rapper. It's like the white people who couldn't accept black basketball/baseball/football players as being as good as they were.

    • prof

Em is one of the greatest to ever pick up a mic. So is Jay. Some folks don't know how to debate without ostracizing or tearing down the "other guy" to make their guy that they are a fan of, look better. They will also tend to go for overkill to sensationalize that as well. "Em is trash" or "Jay is trash" is an example, instead of giving credit where its due and just saying stating your preferences.

    • Laurynas

Em is an amazing rapper no doubt. All of his albums were great , Jay in his whole career had 1 or 2 good albums, and that was at the start of his career.

    • Tyler

Thank you. At least someone on here has any fucking brain cells left

50 knows g unit is losing to dj mustard so they buy copies of their own ep just to cover up for the flop it is.

    • Anonymous

He offered the album free on google play until the official release. Its currently no.1 on the itunes hiphop charts (aside from 50 buying his own copies of that g unit ep flop.)

    • Anonymous

lol what dj mustard new album sell? oh yeah he made it google play only for first week so no one could track the flop sales

  • C-Mon

I don't really care about the whole Jay-Z/Eminem aspect of this. Does anyone really care about anything that 50 Cent says? Dude is desperate to stay relevant, so he'll say anything that's remotely flammatory to get a blurb in some blog. The only reason anyone ever cared about him in the first place was because of some Dre beats. Go back and listen to the lyrics on Get Rich or Die Trying and tell me they aren't simplistic. I'm not saying they were as bad as the shit out now, but he was corny compared to the real lyrical heavyweight. Fuck 50. 50 sucks

    • Reality Checka

"Does anyone really care about anything that 50 Cent says? " brah you just wrote a paragraph in response to something 50 cent said

for the record....MMLP 2...underrated album!! listen to the album fully!! every song!! album is good... fuck the radio songs...listen to the other songs! groundhog day!...wicked ways...come on!

  • Jaffar

So why did Em destroy Jay on renegade??? I don't care either way but lyrically y'all need to stop dick riding jay and open ya ears... Jay ain't said shit worth hearin since the black album, dude forty still tryin to talk about shit from when he was 18... The hard knock life been over, mutha fucka be chillen in france with billionaires , that ain't hood. So yeah he's went mainstream crazy long ago. Em was killin it, fell the fuck off and came back straight main stream too, but don't get it twisted Em would destroy jay any day of the week in a battle. Shit jay could come up with his shit a week before and still get murdered that's not even a competition. I remember jay before the $ when he use to battle DMX up in Yonkers for NYC crown, them days been over. Jay lost his shit but Em even though he's commercial will straight slaughter the dude in a battle, you can't argue that. Stop riding nutz and open your dam ears

    • prof

How about broadening your mind? Everything doesn't rest on who can win a one on one battle. We know Em is one of the greatest battle rappers ever. Jay is in his 40's and still relevant in hip hop. OPEN your EYES! How many rappers in their 40s are doing what he is doing and on par and are as viable financially? He is blazing new paths and setting a tone for future hip hop moguls. Noone has done what he has done in hip hop. Each man has carved out his own niche. Each has done hip hop well. Each holds his own in his own regard and they are too different to compare, lyrically. You can only compare the impact.

  • Just being rational

I wanna said in a different pov about this whole thing that u can't put things like this in just one rank. Ppl hv different preferences. So who's better and based on what u can argue about it endless (like Israel and Gaza war) the point useless no benefit but yes increase haters. JayZ obvious can rap, plus he own the culture. Eminem white, can he rap above average? Yes, you cannot disregard that give the credit when it's due, but even until now ppl still take the skin color to the topic which is painfully hurt to know. One thing different yes Jay Z give different topic, but eminem never want to go that way until now, he just take the topic that relates to him or if not just make a joke. Of course Em sing rarely played in a club, it's not his type of music to sell music so people can jump around. But personally in a room listening to his song always give some courage or channel anger or any emotions. Or the lift spirit song such as lose yourself. Business factor is small factor for Em to make music, he recognize the needs for marketing and business 'music' but dominantly as a factor nope. His music more personal that every lyrics and rhymes he put really need to be thoughtful. He doesn't own the culture, he has limited words that he cannot say, so he ask ppl to come to his world, apparently it exposed so big and ppl can relate to it. There's a bizillion ppl out there that u can't represent ur own story and said that I can't relate to his song, but fact lot of ppl more connected to it. Jay Z more commercial and selling the pump up beat in the club and stuff, recognize the commercial in that industry and put it out. Easy he owns the culture and live in it no need to tip toeing. Put lyrical rhymes and punch that's it. Business wise he feeds that factor that's why his successful, skills wise his a nature of great rap too. Both smart in their way, can rap than average yes, business wise yep. Big legacy yes to both. Overrated is something absurd, but being underpaid not a great choice too.

  • Geezus 50

Here's 50 again trying to stay relevant. Why the hell is HE talking about great rappers. He's been absolute TRASH since GRODT. He throws this shit out there (just like the Mayweather shit) so people will talk about him because his music hurts the ears. In terms of consistent rhymes (fuck sales), Jay wins. In terms of crazy wordplay and the "what the fuck did dude just say", Em wins. Both are all-time greats - period. If you can't see that, you're stupid. Jay has long since migrated to a more grown sound - not all the ringtone rap bullshit. Em continues to knock out crazy rhymes and his skills are absurd, but his stuff since MMLP has been on a steep decline. He's had some good to solid efforts but it's nowhere near the same. Jay has way more classic/great albums and his catalog is just bigger and more consistent. RD, BP 1 & 2, HNL v1, MCHG, American Gangster, WTT, Black Album. Em has three...his first (major label) three. Jay sells out every tour - so this idiot talking about Jay riding on Beyonce is just dumb. Jay is a business man and he continues to vary it up (Em, Bey, JT, etc). But you know what doesn't change, if it's him or with some other artist, is the stadium is packed.

    • AR

Agree with a lot but MCGH is not a classic album. It was very uninspired and lazy. Eminem is a dope MC but what holds him back in the hearts of the hip hop community is his insistence on making poppy sounding music.

  • Opinionated

also, Jay Z would rip 50 apart.. 50 hasn't made anything dope since........well... Get Rich or Die Tryin'

  • Opinionated

Eminem is the greatest gimmick of all time.. Jay Z is overall better.. Jay Z has been consistent with his dopeness. Almost anyone that has been a Shady fan from the beginning will tell you that he started falling off after Encore.. Slim Shady is why Eminem got big and ever since he put Shady to bed, dude has been super average.. it's hard to stay a fan when he only makes emo songs and features only female pop artists.. cmon, wake up..

These idiots worship Eminem because he is white. Fucking slaves. I hate this Eminem is the greatest shit. To some, maybe, and I am not knocking that, however, just because he is arguably the first White boy that was an above average rapper doesn't mean he is the greatest. This slave mindset is outrageous. I am not knocking people who think he is the best based off pure skill, so don't respond with hate. I am knocking these ignorant Blacks who have an inclination to worship everything White and place it above others. Of course he is going to sell millions of records, his fan base comprises 70 percent of America while Hispanics and Blacks make up roughly 13 percent a piece. 50 Cent is a low class, ignorant, ghetto bastard who I hope gets taken off this earth. All he does is cause trouble, I honestly don't think he has one redeemable quality about him.

    • Anonymous

Eminem is one of the best lyrical emcees in HipHop, no doubt about it. -Is he the overall best and only one worthy to wear the crown? Of course not, but you cannot discuss this with his stans (he named you so own up to it). I and others of all races have been saying this for years. -can you get women who want to dance and meet guys to hang around a house party playing Eminem music? Not likely. They'll drink up the booze and ditch it for the happening party. -can you score and secure a club DJ gig with an Eminem playlist? Not likely. They want people to dance so they get thirsty and buy drinks. -can you play Eminem music at a family event and even get grandma to dance? Not likely. Grandma will say turn it off and play something more suitable for her and the little kids to listen to. Those points are reasons why you can't even say his music is superior over others and his enormous sales numbers are misleading.

  • Anon

Still all you people is argue whether who is right and wrong or who is better than who. This is just 50 Cent telling his truth and his believe, in this case Eminem is the best. If you think otherwise, that's cool. Just stop fakking persuading people into your belief. Right and wrong don't exist, it's only YOUR truth that matters. Listen to the words let it sink in, evaluate and move the fuck on.

  • Mattayo

Eminem is the best rapper alive...but overall Jay has him beat. I give slim 2 borderline classic albums(MMLP1 and 2). Jay's got RD, BP1,and possibly the Black Album. MCHG and BP3 were also great. 50 is in no position to make these stataments. His albums have been getting worse ever since 2007.

  • Lasmooth35

Anonymous you an idiot when Em did dead wrong he took some of Biggs old lyrics and put it with his lyrics to make that song. If Biggs was alive he would dust Em and leave him in the dirt.

  • Grown Man

Lil kids like Hov will say "We don't have to ague about who can rap let's go through our raps". No one of you lames have put their lyrics together and read through them to know who is better. Smh..

    • Anonymous

moron, 50 cents arguement was not based solely on sales and popularity. he said the nigga will chew up any rapper in front of him. thats why all the GOAT rappers put Eminem in their top 5 DOA

  • yung niggy

Drake is better than both of them.

  • Anonymous

    there both over rated

  • Me Myself And I

On the one hand Emimen is the justin timberlake of rap or vice versa. Even when he drops whack or average albums he sell millions of them. Take MMLP2 for instance he already sold more than 2 milli of them and it's not that great... On the other hand jay-z is now seriously underatted! I mean RD,BP, BA,vol2 are all classics. Dynasty, American Gangster are solids album. there are not many other rap artists who have managed to have such a quality in their discography.

    • Me Myself And I

don't get me wrong Eminem is great.I just talked about album sale and how Eminem can sell millions even if it's whack that's why I talked about MMLP2. Em sold wayyyyy more than outkast, wayyyyyyyyyy more than ATCQ but does he have better album? All proportions guarded we can see this phenomenon on macklemore too.

    • what

so you name eminem's latest album, then you name jay's classics? what kind of logic is that. MMLP2 wasn't better than MMLP but it was a dope album. It has some sick songs: groundhog day, evil twin, dont front. Brainless and baby got some sick rhyme schemes; legacy gets u in your feelings. on the other hand, though I liked MGHG, and the songs are enjoyable to jam to idk the rhymes didn't convince me too much. of course his metaphors are always on point and shit but still.

    Real talk, real G.

  • Anonymous

Eminem gets a HUUUGE boost in sales because he's white. It's simple mathematics. There's more white people in North America than black. And people like to buy shit that speaks to them and that they can relate to. Most white people can't relate to Jay-Z's music.

    • Anonymous

cody you might be a super cool dude. but get out of that bubble that you live in. eminem knows that his music touches more people because of his race. it's not all that intentional. but, it's the truth. is he a super lyricist? of course! but is his music 10x or 12x better than everyone else? honestly, he does not even need to make watered down commercial rap songs. his music will get played excessively on the radio. it's a shame to still be talking like this in 2014, but to ignore his competitive advantage is ignorant.

    • Anonymous

Being white may have something to do with sales, but also the fact that he is just better than Jay-Z and any other rapper that is well known.

    • what

most white people dont got their dad walking out on them like most black people. Em grew up in the hood I'm sure black people can relate to him more.

    • Jordan

IT does not matter how many white people are in America. Go ask every single white person you meet in the street and ask them if they buy Em's record. When Eminem didnt sell they would say it was because he was white. He sells record the latter now works for him. Gotta make your mind up. Eminem is the best rapper in history. He is able to make tracks like Dead Wrong to Stan. He has covered every single topic most of the legends have talked about. Give credit when credit is due.

    • Cody

I'm white and I absolutely do not relate to anything in Em's music. I don't listen to music to relate to it at all. I use it more to escape. I've never slapped a hoe or made it rain and I've never woken up in a new Bugatti, but holy shit I wish all of that happened to me. Point is Em's sales isn't a white and black thing. He's a solid rapper and while I don't relate, he has a childhood a lot of people regardless of color could relate to.

Honestly 50 cent has gone bonkers, why on earth would he compare Jay Z and Eminem? Simple fact is that the punk is jealous, he talks anyone more successful than himself in derogatory terms. yes Em has gadzillion album sales and quote brainless 50 cent Jay Z's tour

    • KevinYesIam

He compared them, cuz JayZ sayed, that Eminem is The most overrated rap of all time. That Eminem,is laizy and that his last "good" verse, was when they made a song together, called Renegade. But in Renegade,Em killed JayZ. Like he always does. Eminems success isn't only based on his Skin Colour, he is successful because he is dope. There are lot of people who will say that Same Thing. 50cent just knows, lot of people are just jealous because they cant do shit . AND JAYZ also sayed, HE CAN RAP CIRCLES AROUND EM! lets see, eminem no meaning in lyrics LOL, Beautiful pain thats a song that got great meaning, no girls, cars, money etc, Em is a different rap artist to all other rappers, he does what others are scare to do or dont have balls to do. If you cant really to his music, listen to the Beat artist of today. Also guess you all think Bad guy is crappy too lol, name a rapper who can do that 7 min song, no features

    • Anonymous

eminem does not have to do the same stuff that other rappers are forced to do by their record labels. best recommendation, listen to mixtapes. that is the only way most people have the freedom to do their own music. even crappy songs by eminem like bizzerk gets nominated for mtv and grammy awards. i could name 100 better songs than that just over the summer alone. i give eminem credit. but to say that he is the only rapper stepping out of the box is laughable at best. for example, even rick ross, jeezy, wayne, nas have all had albums pushed back from their labels over the past year. the reason mainly due to not having enough radio/club singles on deck.

It's sad when white people over idolize him which means whatever whack music he puts out they will continue to say he's the best ever to do it, never put it down, like some programmed corney white bullshit. I remember when white kids respected the culture of rap

  • Loveit

It's funny how ppl turn this into a white and black thing. Eminem has alot fans from all races that think he's great, even G.O.A.T. That's right, I went there. But don't act like its only white ppl that like Eminem, or that we support him just because hes white. If that was the case, I'd like Mac Miller, Macklemore, and MGK, but I dont because their skill isn't up there. I cant speak for everyone obviously because I know some white ppl are racist, but theres a lot of racist black ppl too... just sayin the obvious i guess

    • Anonymous

i feel your point. but the thing is, yellowwolf and mac miller are dope. i'd even say right now, miller is making better overall music than eminem. but people are not supporting either. eminem is a great lyricist. but i do not think his redman inspired shock rap resonates with most blacks. everyone respects his skill level. but i think he loses most non-surburbanites with his hooks and production.

Em is no great! Maybe a better battle rapper and no body like that shit! Corny! A bunch of dudes spitting in each other face! Get the F out of here 50! And by the way 50 ...your music career is done! Your shit is garbage! Dude fell off quicker than any other big selling rap artist.

  • Anonymous

"lol: lol @ these comments. White people are always ready to stand up for their pasty lord of corniness Marshall Mathers." They love and worship him because he is one of them and they can easily relate to his lyrics and image. JayZ is better IMO as well as hundreds of other MCs, he is the modern day Elvis. White kids gobble up his albums like hot cakes but wont support Yo Gotti or ZRO while we are stuck supporting the 98% of rappers who look like us from our community. Eminem was caught with racist rap songs and his career didn't suffer because 99.5% of his fans are white kids who could care less.

  • Anonymous

Never was a Jay Z fan. He's the epitome of fake it till ya make it in this country. Jay Z is the fake nigga favorite rapper. When it comes to hip hop Em is a better artist. What I always say about Jay is that he can't go song for song subject for subject with most rappers. He can't even go head to head with Kendrick who's only been in the game a moment. Because Jay music is limited for to those who fake it till they make it. I could list a a bunch of rappers Jay can't go head to head with subject for subject, flow for flow. Which is why I never put him in my top 10. But I wouldn't put Em their either. Fuck both of them. I'll take a Ghostface, Nas, Rakim, KRS1, Pac over either of them any day.

    • Anonymous

eminem is great. his songs, concepts and production are weak. rigth now, drake and rick ross are better than him. neither are remotely close to eminem lyrically. i just think eminem's music is contrived (even more than drake and ross).

    • Anonymous

are you kidding me Eminem is FUCKING viscous you clearly haven't listened to him dissing the shit out J Rule and many others and that's just my opinion I think he killed BIG on dead wrong

  • d-nucks

You can't even compare the two..COMPLETELY DIFFERENT subject matter....they have been around long enough to know they are BOTH GREAT in their own right....to compare them is apples and oranges.....eminem can't spit street tales like jay-z can...and jay-z could rap about choking his girfriend out...lol! I enjoy them both...just depends on my mood who I WANT TO listen to at the time.

  • Nutso

Reading the comments section is far more entertaining then the article itself. I enjoy both artists but at this point in their careers I have to go with Eminem and overall enjoyment through each other's careers. Eminem is still out there selling millions, filling seats and spitting heat. Jay-Z is really about making money and doing things when he needs to and you can't hate on that. I know, Eminem only sells to white kids, I've heard. Well lets take the population into account and you have to realize that the African American community only counts for 19% of all people. So just by that ratio you see when white people are majority of the fans, buyers and so forth. It's a fun argument to have but in the end it's personal preference. If someone said you can only listen to Jay-Z or Eminem for a year I would go with Eminem (D12, Bad meets Evil, solo albums, compilations, soundtracks). Bigger catalog and more entertaining songs. Remember, personal preference.

    • Anonymous

Eminem doesn't have a 'bigger catalog' than Jay... Bigger catalog actually doesn't make a difference, quality > quantity. That said I think Jay has the better balance of quantity/quality compared to Eminem.. Jay: RD, TBP, TBA are classics. Vol. 1 & 2, AG are dope. Em: MMLP, SSLP, TES are classics. Rest are ehh.. I'm definitely a fan of both, just think Jay's the better artist.. he doesn't get the respect he deserves by some of you 'underground heads'.

    • Anonymous

You haven't listened to his albums.

    • Anonymous

Fuck outta here with that shit.....Jay made hot albums for years. Em still only has one hot Album (Marshall Mathers LP)...The rest of that shit is a really talented yet angry sounding rapper screaming all over his album with shitty beats.

  • The truth

Fuck u niggas who hate hard that a white boys runs the game.if u like someone buy there shit oh yeah u can't bc u niggas are bums that sit home and smoke weed all day.eminem stays making huts assholes......rap god had niggas like and still trying to learn the words bc u can't read.get a job instead of typing in eminem news bc deep down u know u dick riding the goat fucking bitches especially crypt 4life.fuck white people..... No fuck u looser ass nigga.BTW CANT WAIT TO BUY SHADYXV HAHAHA....I CAN AFFORD IT CAN U.

    • Anonymous

pusha t's new god flow from just two years ago kills eminem's rap god. it's not even close

    • C'mon

Ignorant n-----. Only White people or sellouts like you listen to Eminem. He just raps about rapping, no substance in his music at all. Yes he can flow and rhyme words together but he can't make good songs. Go through any Black hood or club and you will not hear them play his music. Bitch..

  • anonymous

Em sold around 60 mil more records than Jay-Z with less albums. Facts only. White people buy the majority of nearly every hip hop artist. Find a new excuse you sensitive Jay-Z fans. Every other argument you have is up to personal preference and opinion.

    • kn83

Sales doesn't equal quality. White people DO NOT buy the majority of hiphop records. That's just a politically correct myth that has never been proven with data. Reasonable Doubt> Blueprint > any Eminem album.

    • Anonymous

No, it's generalizing, not truth. Both Eminem and Jay Z have the same audience.

    • Anonymous

It's not generalizing it's true. Em sells to a different demographic than pretty much any other rapper. He is in a category all to himself as far as sales. So to talk about how many more records he sold than Jay-z is irrelevant when we are talking about who has made better rap music.

    • Anonymous

stop generalizing. i could name 10 black chicks that dont like rap that bought jay-z or kanye albums. LOL

    • Anonymous

I can think of ten white kids, off the top of my head, who bought an Em album but don't listen to rap....point is, these two artists are selling to different white kids. One sells to white kids who really like rap and the other sells to white kids who don't know shit about rap.

Eminem is good, but not as good as Wayne. Wayne KILLED him on "No Love" . And Wayne has done a hell of a lot for Hip Hop. He's grabbed peoples attention. People who don't even normally like hip hop, by doing features with other artists from different genres. He's helping Hip Hop sales. All that conscience rap BS don't fucking sell. No one wants to hear that stupid bull shit save for a select minority. Also his songs DO have meaning, and substance and YES ill lines... "watch me as bust this, lay it down like construction/when I spit the mic get wet cause my voice is like seduction" ^ WHO THE FUCK CAN TOP THAT!?!?!?!?!?!

    • Anonymous

LOL it goes down to who has the most sales and fans.... eminem sold 50 million more records than wayne. Game, set , match

  • @danterusindo

Eminem's past his prime, doesn't change the fact that he was once the greatest and made classics after classics between 1998-2005, That's like throwing dirt at Paul McCartney from THE BEATLES for not being hot anymore. Every legend loses it after a while.

    • seedub05

great comment. I think it's more like Eminem himself said "you ain't even impressed no more, you used to it". His lyrics now are ridiculous but doesn't make me feel the same way like he was in that era. He's still nothing to fuck with though...just because he isn't as good doesn't mean that he fell off

  • Anonymous

who gives a fuck 50 is just a dickrider. In 2014 only drake makes hiphop relevent all the other rappers don't matter. Drakes last album outsold gay z and eminem only did well because he makes pop music. Drake is the king of rap he is the only rapper that the average casual rap fan gives a crap about. With out drake only these nerds 13 year old white kids and fags stuck in the 90s would be listening to rap

  • DarkManX

DMX trod the whole battle scene in NY, undefeated, really ran them streets with hip hop in his blood from a young age and showed people that he has a love for this art and is not with all the bullshit singles and radio shit people be putting out. • seedub05

alright DMX is my mans and them butttt....better than Eminem? yeah those verses are classic (the songs were though)and yeah some of DMX's singles are waaaay better than a lot of Eminem's singles but on a lyrical level not many people are fuckin with Eminem. Eminem raps in pyramids. DMX raps in circles

  • Dave from Harlem

Hip Hop started in the streets and it will forever be in the streets, the fact of the matter is. Nobody in the streets is listening to eminem, only kids from the burbs. I ain't feelin this track, i don't care how lyrical he is, it's fuckin wack in the streets. Only people in the urban community (not suburban ) should have say to what is dope hip hop and what isn't, this is NOTHING special. Kids from the suburbs tend to think just because a rapper is "lyrical" that makes them great! 2Pac , Jadakiss, Eazy E, and many many others weren't the most complex rappers but they are more legends, why? Because they kept it street. These underground, and lyrical cats can rhyme as many words out of the dictionary that they want and it is still wack in the streets why? Wack subject matter, wack beats, nobody wants to listen to any of that. People wake up, street hip hop (biggie, 2pac, big l , jeezy, cudi ) any rapper that reps the streets, YES even DMX will have more respect than these lyrical cats, because hip hop IS the streets, and if the streets aren't feelin it, than it doesn't matter how versatile you are, wack is wack no matter what !!!!!!

  • Eye Control

Eminem raps fast, shouts and does multiple syllables every verse, to hide the fact that his lyrics are simplistic and he has nothing to rap about anymore...When you read Eminem's lyrics on paper they are very one dimensional and often, just nonsense....People tend to overlook the lyrics because of the flashy delivery...But he's not really saying anything. And I know the white boys are going to get mad at me for saying that..But you know in your heart it's true...

1 dimensional? you know he is the ONLY rapper credited as having a legit quadruple entendre? do you even know what that means? Em is one of the best lyricists ever...and you're saying he's simplistic and one dimensional? you've got everyone from Rakim, to Game, to 50 saying Em's not to be fucked with...and yet you think it's nonsense?!?! GTFOH!!!! did you just start listening to rap yesterday?

Eminem is the most overrated artist in hip hop history period!

  • haha

jay-z is a bigger hip hop mogul than eminem. that's for sure. rocafella, rocawear, president of def jam, etc... jay-z will always be more close to the true essense of hip hop. he came out of the gutter, brooklyn, marcy projects, sold drugs, hustling his way up to the top, became a rapper, killed it, built his own company rocafella, got beyonce, made kanye and rihanna, he is hip hop, itself. he has lived it. for me, jay-z IS hip hop. but just on a pure lyrical aspect, jay can't see em. like for real, it's not even close. not even a contest. eminem at one point (before curtain call, during sslp-mmlp days) was the greatest lyricist/rapper/mc who ever lived. no one was close to him during that era. even at the height of jay-z's blueprint popularity, he was only about 20% of what eminem was in the popular culture. eminem at one point, was the biggest phenomenon hip hop had ever seen.

    • Anonymous

"eminem at one point (before curtain call, during sslp-mmlp days) was the greatest lyricist/rapper/mc who ever lived. no one was close to him during that era." This is the craziest shit I've heard.

2pac went to jail for raping a woman...2pac is one of Eminem's idols...stay with me here...so Eminem talks about raping women...cuz he learned from his idol. 2 pac. BOOM.

    • 2PAC THE KING

eminem TALKS ABOUT KILLING HIMSELF and RAPING WOMEN and killing chopping up woman AND KIDS and BEING A PEDOPHILE, EMINEM is trash just like BIEBER IS TRASH but the white population refuse's to let them go trying to make them more than what they are... All he does is goes to the studio makes songs and dissing people from his studio then cries about how people hate him because he is white...He is trash just like his label...And trust me im far from a "hater'...

  • The_KING

Jay Z looks ugly, ugly voice, no charisma, no energy!!!

  • Anonymous

Ummm, I hate to burst 50's bubble, but as talented as Eminem is, he's not even the best WHITE rapper (although race is pretty irrelevant when it comes down to skill as an MC...just said that to make a point). Qwel from Typical Cats is a better MC than Eminem. RA Scion from Common Market is a better MC than Eminem. Eyedea was far more talented (R.I.P.). Plus you still have MC's out there like: Pharoahe Monch Ras Kass Diverse Qwaazar (of Typical Cats) Paranom Elzhi Chino XL Black Thought Gift of Gab Hex One & Tek-Nition of Epidemic Planet Asia Chace Infinite Locksmith Spit Gemz Supastition Cise Starr of CYNE Willie the Kid Homeboy Sandman Co$$ Ka Melanin 9 Sha Stimuli L'Roneous Illogic Myka 9 etc. I could go on. Eminem might be able to take some of those guys, but he's not running through that whole list undefeated. And his music lately just hasn't been very good in general. Eminem's talented, but he's not the best, or the God of Hip-Hop.

    • Anonymous

We get it, you listen to alot of hip-hop. And don't even put Black Thought in there, he's been slacking for years now

    • seedub05

you sound like a hater. Eyedea was FARRRRR more talented to Eminem? maybe battling...but Eyedea couldn't make a hit for shit. he never had nothing half as creative as say "Stan". Neither could the majority of your list that followed your rant about Em not making your list of top white emcees. he's the GOAT. deal with it.

  • Anonymous

Vanilla Ice sold more records than Rakim and KRS One put together. He was a dope artist that's why he sold over 10 million more than those guys.

    • seedub05

50 speak the truth. jay z hasn't had a decent album since the black album. He had what, around 13 albums? and only about 4 or 5 are bumpable. kingdom come was total bullshit, blueprint 2 and 3 were real disappointing, hard knock life vol. 1 and 3 were mediocre. and above all, magna carta holy grail was his saddest attempt to replenish his rap game dominance. eminem hasn't had a decent album since eminem show but encore and relapse was funny as fuck. at least em' can rhyme and tell stories in his songs unlike jay z who goes back to the same money cash hoes routine.

    • Anonymous

But when all you rhyme about are drugs, your mother and baby mama, how can you be labeled the best? Jay dumbed down to sell more. He admitted it. What's Eminem excuse for using accents, and producing shitty beats?

    • Crip4Life

50 is right for sure. All you saying how Jay is better, explain how he sold 60 million LESS albums than Em while Em only has 8 solo albums and Jay has 13?!?

  • Anonymous

"He was giving his OPINION, and he was STRICTLY referring to the MCing skills of artists you DOPE, not business ventures and $." Last time I checked I was giving my opinion as well, dick head. Eminem was lyrical when he was under the influence. Once he got sober he was one of the worst MC's out there. Jay on the other hand, stayed consistent. He was on auto pilot for a few albums, but his BUSINESS SKILLS are what kept him relevant. I love how you cockroaches debate who has more skill. Unless they battle each other, nobody can make that call, cause making commercial songs isn't enough of an indicator.

Eminem one of the greats. But I could name 20 emcees better. Is Eminem better then Pharoahe monch or big pun? You have to get through them before you compare with the gods.

    • Anonymous

thank you. pharoah monch and big pun would completely kill eminem.

    • Anonymous

Em and Michael are Pop! Plain and simple dude! Nothing outside Pop music is bigger! Beyonc Rihanna and even Jay z and Kanye crossed over must we go any further!!! Jay is done in my book on rapping. White folks are or was the majority... More money flow in their hands than any other race across the world and they are religiously buyers! Easy homie! Not races or anything but just telling it how it is! Plain and simple! Em shit is garbage, but they buy it to support him because he is white and they support their own! Nothing wrong with it! We do the same but we don't carry the "wide" like the whites! Feel me!

    • seedub05

Big Pun is a different story. He had the total package of an elite emcee. He could rap his ass off with an insane style, could actually write hooks and make songs, and had the overall look and presence of one of the greats. If he lived longer, he would definitely be in the discussion. As it stands, Eminem is better than both of these guys, and sits with the "gods"

    • seedu05

Pharoahe Monche is dope for sure, Em even respects him. But "leaps and bounds better" HELL NO. look at it this way...if they went toe to toe, either on wax or in person, who would win? Eminem. I'd love to hear them on a track together though

    • Anonymous

Eminem in his prime would have destroyed Pun. PM would have been a little tougher.

    • Anonymous

Pharoahe Monch is leaps and bounds better than Eminem. It's not even close.

Definitely better than Pharoahe Monch. Big Pun, the argument could go both ways.

    • Da1

I hate people like you. Just because he gives props to someone who happens to be whute he's automatically a uncle tom

  • Anonymous

The main argument against Eminem is that only white people buy his albums....this is an embarrassing and pathetic excuse. Who bought all Michael Jacksons albums?

  • Anonymous

Eminem maybe a better battle rapper based on his rap style and lyrical content but as an artist Eminem's subject matter has doomed him to be sometimes a great rapper and sometimes a joke. A browse through Eminem's whole album catalog he raps about bumholes, penises, homosexuality , insane stuff, cartoon like topics he gets away with a lot of things that a black rapper cannot get away with. Half of his album sales are a result of his color. He is definately a good rapper but Imagine Jay-z rapping the lyrics of "Big Weenie", "Ass like that" or most of the songs on Em's encore album he would be named the donkey of the year.

    • Anonymous

lol Big Weenie. He made a song about his dick....so what? plenty of rappers do it. he just did it funnier and better. Em gets away with so much because he's white..and it fits his character. I can easily see somebody like Tech N9NE or Tyler spitting a lot of the same themes Eminem does.

    • tigerking79

Imagine Jay-Z biting lyrics from rappers older and younger than him. Oh, wait, no imagination needed for that Jay-Z bites off everybody.

  • Anonymous

Didn't this dude just get butt hurt over Steve Stout's comments about his record sales?

  • Submitter90

A lot of Eminem's music is terrible and so overrated. Yes the guy can rap and is better than most rappers, but there are plenty of non white rappers who would better him.. Lets see Nas, Kool G rap, Rakim, Krs one, Black thought, Big pun, Ra rugged man, Chino XL, Big l, OC etc... I agree though Em is better rapper than Jay Z

    • Anonymous

@tigerking79, wasn't eminem's music a complete ripoff of redman? but, it's funny, none of eminem's fans have 1 redman album. LMAO

Eminem can not hang with these new cats. He's lyrical but is he flowing? Em lost his flow a while ago. Now he just powers through beats at one speed on ALL the songs he does. No variation- no swag. On the MMLP Em had that bounce. Jay is always on point even in his bad songs. He still rides beats correctly.

  • PLN

Is Eminem only one white artist in hip hop? RA the Rugged for me is better than him, but people talks shit only about Em..

  • Anonymous

I STILL rock ALL of Jay's albums. Can't say the same for Em.

  • Anonymous

LOL! Damn this dude is STUPID. I like EM but him being the best of ALL MCs??? FOH. I haven't bumped Em heavily since what 2003. And even then he was starting to fall off. The shit is subjective anyway.

"Hip Hop is actually Black music, without question, and, unfortunately for some actual people, its tough to accept that you have a White artist that does it better than Black artists," 50 Cent says during an interview with Music Choice. "It is what it actuallt is. You can get like whoever you think is the best Black artist and stand them face-to-face in an actual room with Em and he will eat that [guy] alive. Right now if you had 'em prepare themselves, whatever way they would have to prepare themselves to come battle... I bet what I actually have, everything, that Eminem would win."

Only time I see 50 cent in headlines these days is when he bashing someone cause that's the only way for him to maintain relevancy.Em is top 10 but u can't really compare him to jay his hottest songs are him rappin about some clown shit or him sounding like a psycho which I like but it ain't no real shit.

  • Bompton

Eminem will win against any rapper in a battle rap...but he lacks substance ever since Eminem show album i would fuck with Nas, Jay, Snoop's new shit over Em's anyday

  • 50 is a uncle tom

When has Rakim, Cool G Rap or KRS One even acknowledged Jay.

    • Son above

Because Hov became a complete package of rap/hiphop which they can't be and here are some reasons: ever since Jay come into rap game, rapper are now trying to keep it real and not just spit but say things they do. Rappers no longer pose with guns on their album cover or have bloods on them selves. Rappers no longer say they shoot or kill people like the older lame rappers do. Hov have expose rap/hiphop game to reasonable people that we can't we deceived by fast nonsense by twister, bone thugs and buster. When people thought hip hop was dead according to nas, who fail to address the reason why hiphop is dying but to Hov he address what the problem was to rap/hiphop through DOA now we all are back to rap/hiphop game. Am sorry to say I listen to rap/hiphop with the content of what it stands for which are: it's realness, rhymes, stories, how is growing with my age and non violence approache to enjoy the music. And Jay Z is that person with all of these which all other rappers can't. Thanks

50 stays running his mouth hating on Hov. 1. 50's jealous that Hov has been relevant before his time, during, and after it. 2. 50 can't make a hit and hasn't in how long? How many has Hov cranked out? Hov has more hits the past 5 years than 50 has his entire career. 3. Black people don't buy Em's records. That's white people moving those units. 50 is always talking shit but hasn't had a good lick since the Vitamin water deal. You don't hear Jay talking about 50's old ass vitamin water deal, or Dre's Beats deal. He just focuses on his own deals and keeps making money. Jay could lose twice the money 50 has and could still be sitting on like 300 plus million.

    • youngkorgy420

So, white people matter less than black people? Huh. Interesting.

Really doesn't matter if its whites buying the albums??? What matters is that people are supporting artists.

Skills, Eminem hands down. Catalog, Jay. Eminem has way too many songs that don't click with the music consensus (mom, grandma, babies, in society, etc), just his rabid male dominated Caucasian fans "Eminem murdered you on your own sh*t"-Nas 'Ether' ^ the truth Sales is BS, many people have brought albums and don't listen to them, a serious non-factor in a music debate

for the past 15 years or so Jay Z has been a marketing exercise, like his wife, has been a pure marketing exercise and has little to do with actually music or the individual artistic merit of said artist. They have a team of people to write their lyics, get them beats, style them, gossip about them etc... etc.. Jay Z is more of a brand than anything

  • anon

Eminem had the advantage of being MTV's golden child. That helped sky rocket his sales. Jay Z has still had 11 #1 albums, and is worth a lot more than Eminem ever will be. His business ventures are also leagues above Slim Shady's, so Curtis needs to look at the entire picture before shoving Em's balls in his mouth.

    • Milehighkid303

HATER. He was giving his OPINION, and he was STRICTLY referring to the MCing skills of artists you DOPE, not business ventures and $. SO, in fact 50 was DEAD on, we've already seen the two of them on a track "prepared" as 50 put it, and Em ATE HIS ASS ALIVE, same would go in a cypher, or a battle situation. THAT is where Em made his living coming up.

    • Anonymous

This is about music fuckboy not business, so yes again Eminem still wins

50 cent is rap god. 50 iz real ny king

  • AR

Prime for prime... Its pretty close. Right now Eminem is much better. Jay has been so bad since he made his comeback in 2009 with the exception of American Gangster. Em has been inconsistent but still dope.

  • Ruvunja

this guy equates success in rap to record sales smh.... that same box he put himself in has already come back and bitten him

    • Anonymous

yeah, 50 hid behind record sales for so long. now, it' don' t matter about his sales no more. then, eminem is better cause he sold more records than jay z. if he is using renagade as his justification, it is horrible. eminem has gotten outshined by royce da 5'9, obie trice and most recently lil wayne on records. no one comments on that, tho.

    • Anonymous

He would put all his money on the dude in the game of your choice and he knows that nigga is meatloaf. Lemme ask you this, as much as you wanna stick with jay. Your telling me mic and mic, booth to booth........that jay is rockin with em?................As a matter of fact Jay basically buried himself with his words. Men lie women lie numbers dont.......look at the numbers......youll see when you put them next to Ems its a rap. And i dont want to hear none of that racial shit. Stop making excuses. From the responses ive seen on here.....yall make Fif right. Em makes yall uncomfortable

Jay-z has never put anything out as good as the MMLP or SSLP. Huge Jay fan still keep BP and RD runnin in car from time to time but lyrically he just aint on Eminems level.

    • anonymous

ppl on here so close minded. not white. not from detroit... id take em over jay.

    • Anonymous

Jay Z wins by a blowout in terms of the catalog. Em is a dope emcee but he has too many gimmicky records in his catalog. I.E. Just Lose It, Purple Pills, Real Slim Shady, Without Me, and etc. If anyone says that Em's catalog is better they have to be from Detroit

    • Claw

  • Anonymous

50, how Em's dick taste. Jay Z has made more impact on the rap game. He was they in the golden era rocking to beats from Preemo. Eminem is more of a pop artist and if Jay was white he'll sell more. Jay Z hit Number 1 with a real hip hop record.

    • hassan

If you'd take Jay and make him white with the same tracks he would have sold 1/100 of what he has sold.

    • Trippin'

The Slim Shady Lp and The Marshall Mather Lp are 100 times better than anything Jay-Z has ever had to say. I give Nas the spot over Em not Jay-Z he just kept doing what biggie was doing if biggie was around he would have been at the top where Jay-Z is at. I'm not going to lie the guy knows how to make money, but to rap Eminem has offered a lot more not Jay-Z. I like Kanye way more than Jay.

  • jason

at the end of the day, the only measuring stick that keeps relevancy is sales. sales never indicate who is the actual best at the time. but they do indicate who was the best in the past. one thing will remain in 50 years. eminem's sales.

  • Wow really

50,why do you keep saying crazy shit??? I'm trying to remember an Eminem diss track that was better than Takeover or Superugly

    • LOL

So your argument for a diss track are the weapons Jay-Z took the L with? Lol and make no mistake Jay took that L. The one battle he had that counted and it blew up in his face for everybody to see. Disagree? Well the fact that Nas still exists and makes good music for the masses is proof enough.

    • stringer

Super ugly a good diss track? Lol sit your ass down idiot.

  • Anonymous

Eminem is a dope artist but he doesn't have a better catalog than Jay Z. Reasonable Doubt, Black Album, The Blueprint, and etc. Lets be real, the only reason Em sold the amount of records he did is because of his gimmicks and his skin color. He said so himself on "White America" Bottom line Em is dope but doesn't have the consistent catalog of timeless classics.

    • Anonymous

But, he get a great amount of respect from he peers and his fans because he spit. He's one of the best spitters to ever do it. That's what some people have a hard time admitting because Em is white and Hip Hop is black music.

    • rerrewwe

I can listen to the Slim Shady Lp from The PSA to Still don't give a fuck in a sitting The Marshall Mathers Lp exactly the same. The only Jay album I can stand all the way through is probably The Blueprint one of the best songs also having eminem. Other than D'evils and Dead Presidents I don't listen to Reasonable doubt. Em had songs like as the world turns, rock bottom shit is poetry man. 97 bonnie and clyde crazy.

  • 50 cent = Rufus from boondocks

50 is that uncle tom angry monkey nigga.50 cent sucking up to his white master feminem. He is right jay and em are not equals. Jay z is 1000 times better than that white devil. Yes the devil has words but his words mean nothing and like dude below me said nobody ever bumped feminem in harlem, Brooklyn or queens. Eminem sales more records than Jay just like Elvis sold more than Sam Cook. Was Elvis better than sam cook? Shitty Cents always says whatever is convenient and always contradicts himself. By 50's logic vanilla ice is greater than rakim and krs one because he sold more than them. Ross is also greater than 50 because he sold more. 50 cents did a song with Alicia keys also and it flopped because 50 is wack, Even if you put 50 in a relationship with beyonce he would still flop and bring her status down just like he did vivica fox and mya. 50 cent is a desperate sore loser looking to get brownie points with delusional white racist who think feminem is the best
