French Montana Says He Made "Mistake" Releasing Nicki Minaj-Featured "Freaks"

"When you go to the club and every record they're playing is yours," French Montana says, "you try to go left, and I made that mistake."

French Montana says that he made a bad decision to release the Nicki Minaj-featured single “Freaks.”

"When you go to the club and every record they’re playing is yours, you try to go left, and I made that mistake,” French Montana says of his 2013 single during an interview with Billboard. "Jay Z told me he once made that same mistake too. Your first album you never know what’s going on with the business and labels. The second one you’re like, ‘Fuck this.’ You get the ball in your own court."

The Bad Boy/Interscope Records artist says that he won’t make the same misstep with his forthcoming Mac & Cheese album.

Gaby Acevedo, Montana’s manager, says that Montana will be making the decisions on his forthcoming album, which is being executive produced by Kanye West and Harry Fraud.

"We’re team players, but he’s got creative control," Acevedo says. "He builds the album on his own, at his house. We don’t have an A&R. He’s his own A&R.”

Songs slated to appear on Mac & Cheese include the DJ Mustard-produced “Don’t Panic,” the Rick Ross and Lil Wayne collaboration “Gucci Mane” and the Miguel duet “Explicit.”

Montana also say that he discusses his personal life on the set.

"You’ll get the skeletons,” he says, "the meat.”

Last month, Montana said that Hip Hop is confused

"I was one of the last people to come out and go big out of New York,” he said at the time. “Everybody's like, 'Is it real Hip Hop? This, this and that.' I feel like the hottest new kid that just came out, [Bobby] Shmurda, he sounds like he's from down south. That's because we're doing different things."

"Soulja is clearly a misunderstood genius whose potential in becoming one of rap's giants is overshadowed by his controversial and troubled young life." Anyone who makes a song like Bird Walk or Turn My Swag On is not a misunderstood genius, they're an easy-to-understand moron who's career is going down a landslide and has to go on a reality show for relevance to make up for their last flop album.

I see everyone else already used the "your whole career is a mistake" joke. Dammit.

see, this is the thing that I don't get. niggas talking all this "french montana sucks" shit and "new york takes another l" crap, yet they take time out of their "busy" day just to comment and hate on the man. at the end of the day, he's way richer than any of you 9-to-5 chumps out here. while you're getting your hours at you little minimum wage gig, he's probably overseas touring and getting more money than you make in a year.

"-I used that one line as an example of how simplistic and retarded the ENTIRE SONG IS, moron. That's just one line though and it doesn't represent the whole song, which isn't simple or retarded. that's where you're wrong. it's not that they're repetitive ,you're just an ignoramus who's probably too stupid to listen to the lyricism, therefore you have to repeatedly press rewind in order to decipher the lyrics that are too deep and profound for your tiny, anonymous brain to comprehend No, you got it wrong. The lines are repetitive, the lyricism in those songs are simple as hell and stupid. There's nothing deep or profound in them. any intelligent person can decode those topics and theorize that the lyrics are anti establishment, meaning these rappers are speaking out against material possessions and celebrating African queens and the mother earths. Guns are a different story. If we must live in this world, then we need to do live by the philosophy of Malcolm X to protect ourselves by any means necessary. Swag is a slang word meaning an air of confidence. Confidence is an important aspect of manhood and adulthood, ergo Soulja Boi is encouraging people to hold their head up high and tout their swagger. No, any intelligent person can decode the lyrics and say they're retarded. They're not anit-establishment, they're pro-establishment. They're not speaking out against material possessions, they're bragging about how cool they are and they don't care about Africa. They only celebrate stupidity and ignorance. Swag is not confidence, it means secretly we are gay. Soulja Boy is encouraging people to be morons. -Again, untrue. Rappers are telling the consumer to NOT purchase whatever product they're rapping about. Haven't you heard of subliminal messaging? Wake up, fool. No. they're not. They're telling consumers they have the products they rap about, they never told anyone not to buy anything, no subliminal messages. Yesterday, I was at the barbershop and I decided to conduct an experiment, so I introduced the subject of the Control song. The other patrons and barbers spoke about it for more than 5 minutes and then panned the song because they don't remember it. Some kids selling cookies came in and one of them played a Chingy CD, next thing you know, everybody in the shop has that CD on repeat, dancing, reciting the lyrics, and break dancing. So tell me how the hell can anybody remember that wack ass verse when it came out over a year ago, but niggas STILL remember Chingy who hasn't had a successful record in years. That whole sentence is a lie you made up in your head. No one plays Chingy anymore and no one would care. In short, you're a pathological liar who reaches for a reason to troll and say dumb shit.

Because the songs that they were created were pure art, and hopefully some day in the next century, someone will add their collection of genius rhymes to an audio museum or even the Smithsonian for patrons to enjoy. And how simplistic can you with by saying "No offense but I'm trying to murder you niggas/make sure no one's ever heard of you niggas?"? Gee, haven't heard THAT rhyme scheme before. How original:\

"@anon *sigh* Kanye is doing fine. he married another Armenian goddess, had a kid with her, and they're blissfully in love. Her ho days are well behind her." He obviously ain't doing fine with that Yeezus trash and those idiotic rants he goes on. Another, that ain't an Armenian goddess, that's a talentless attention whore whose hoe days aren't behind her.

    • anon

How do you get rap geniuses and poets out of the people who made songs like Superman That Hoe, Ain't Worried About Nothin, Hot Nigga, Versace Versace, Don't Like, Hard In The Paint, etc.? And how is Kendrick's Control verse lame or simple? This has to be a troll.

    • Anonymous

Yep, You're an idiot. Soulja Boy sucks and is low tier like French and Bobby. The hood never gave a fuck about him, just little kids who've grown up by now. All Soulja Boy does is repeate the same dumb shit over and over again. If you're looking for intelligence in his music, then you're wasting time. Khloe is just like the rest of her family who sleep around. Their mom is the one who runs shit. Eminem and Rakim are legends who can do whatever the fuck they want. The new generation is getting plenty of shine and half of them suck. You got everything wrong with Kendrick and Drake. That Control verse isn't some simple ABC bullshit that a toddler could spit, that describes the music and rapping of Migos, Keef, Herb, Bibby, PeeWee, Flocka, and Lil Reese, who are all trash rappers. Control was telling other rappers to step up their pen game. Both Kendrick and Drake (yes, Drake might be soft, but he got bars) make introspective music that isn't the same money, drugs, hoes bullshit that most rappers speak about. Do you even listen to lyrics or do you just skim through it? Also, MMG is fake and Wale and Stalley's careers haven't been catapulted to shit.

    • french vanilla

@anon *sigh* Kanye is doing fine. he married another Armenian goddess, had a kid with her, and they're blissfully in love. Her ho days are well behind her.

    • french vanilla

Soulja Boi is clearly a top tier rapper, as is Bobby and French. King Soulja just went double platinum in the hood and there's no turning back. Soulja is clearly a misunderstood genius whose potential in becoming one of rap's giants is overshadowed by his controversial and troubled young life. Khloe is part owner of Dash's Clothing Store and a reality TV star in her own right. Only her sister Kim has (seemingly) slept around. As I stated earlier. Eminem and Rakim have had their time and it is time for a new generation of young, hungry rappers to shine. I suggest that both men retire and move into a retirement and live out their golden years playing chess and shuffleboard (or whatever old and forgotten rappers do). Kendrick Lamar and Drake make basic, boring music for morons who think lyricism has something to do with shouting and singing pop ballads. Take for example Kendrick's Control verse. How the hell did that nigga even shock the world with that lame verse, anyway? if you break it down and slowly analyze it, then you'll notice it sounds like every other A-B-C rhyme out there. Even a toddler could spit a verse that simple. If MMG is so fake, then why did they sign Stalley and Wale? Hmm? Tell me that. They knew talent when they saw it and now their respective careers were catapulted in to the stratosphere! Again, Migos, Keef, Herb, Bibby, PeeWee, Flocka, and Lil Reese are all up and coming rap geniuses and poets in their own rights.

    • anon

If I was in Lamar's shoes, I would treat Khloe like the Kardashian she really is, just hit it and quit. Don't try to wife up those Kardashians. They're nothing but trouble and will use you. Look at Kanye. As Kurupt said, don't turn a hoe into a housewife.

    • Anonymous

Clearly, I'm arguing with a troll. Yes, Bobby and French are low level rappers at the same level as Soulja Boy. Khloe is a Kardashian, who are all talentless attention whores who've slept with many people. Eminem and Rakim, no matter what time it is, will always be upper-level emcees. MMG? That label of fake studio gangsters run by Officer William Roberts? HA!! And you're right about one thing, both Kendrick and Drake aren't in the same league as all of those rappers you named. In fact, those two are many levels above all of those wack niggas. Seriously, though? Migos? Chief Keef? Lil Durk, Bibby, and Herb? Lol you just named a bunch of wack motherfuckers who couldn't rap to save their lives.

    • french vanilla

Bobby and French are most certainly NOT low level rappers. In fact, i'd venture to say that they're both at a level of Rakim and Big daddy Kane. Lamar Odom had a chance to prove himself to Khloe, but he fucked it up by cheating and doing drugs. Shame on him. If I were in his shoes, I'd treat her like the Armenian goddess that she is. I would welcome her home by preparing a home cooked meal every night, give her a back rub,and maybe start a long and engaging conversation about how her day went. But, alas, she's with Montana now, so all I can say is that they deserve one another and I wish them the very best. Eminem and Rakim, unfortunately, have had their time. Yes, i agree that they WERE giants at one point, HOWEVER, we must make way for a new generation of emcees, like MMG, for instance. Kendrick Lamar and Drake are definitely NOT in the same league as French, Bobby, Lil Durk, Chief Keef, Lil Bibby, Lil Herb, Astro, Fred The Godson, Migos, PeeWee The Longway, Meek Mill, who are all lyrical monsters in their own right.

    • Anonymous

A$AP Rocky is better than French Montana

    • Anonymous

More like he stayed at Pre-K. Also, nobody's mad or jealous of French or Bobby. They're both low-level rappers with no talent. Also, French is sleeping with Lamar Odom's talentless seconds, Bobby doesn't have anything lockdown and there's no new dance craze (nigga dancing like a girl). Lyrically gifted? HA!! Don't make me laugh. Lyrically gifted describes people like Jay Z, Nas, Eminem Rakim, even Kendrick Lamar and Drake, but not French Montana and the other rappers you named. I'm not a hater, you're just a dickrider.

    • french vanilla

I feel really bad for you anonymous pricks. you're just mad that the homie french and the big homie bobby is doing big things and taking over the internet by storm. don't be jealous that you're not the lucky man who gets to come home and pipe a talented Armenian goddess every night or you don't have the internet on lockdown with the hottest new dance craze. It's not my fault you're not as lyrically gifted as French or any of the other rappers I named. You can't be a hater your whole life.

    • Anonymous

He ain't your homie, the dance ain't innovative (females and gay niggas dance like tat all the time), the song sucks. Bobby Schmurda ain't gonna blow up, he's the 2014 version of Trinidad James and the only reason people know about him and that song is because of Vine videos that were making fun of that dance.

    • french vanilla

dont talk bad about the homie bobby. it's an innovative dance plus the song is catchy as fuck. he signed to epic records like a week agooooooo lol. I'm telling you, the kid is dangerous. he's definitely next up.

Oh, yeah. Anguy from Morocco being at the forefront of New York hip-hop with southern-sounding beats and a single produced by DJ Mustard.

    • Anonymous

You're just making up bullshit because you never grew up with French. If you got Instagram pics, then post a link. The only lame here is you. French is actually one of the worst rappers out there. He sucks as a rapper (he's getting worse, not better and you never been to any of his cyphers) and he is not representing New York at all. And all them other niggas you named suck. NY rap is dead.

    • french vanilla

You don't know that, nigga. I grew up with French in the Bronx and showed him how to survive in the hood. I've got ID and many instagram pics that back up the validity of my statements. All I see here is a bunch of lames hating on French because he's one of the best rappers we got right now. Did you ever think that maybe the reason niggas went cuckoo over French ten years ago is because he has a decent amount of talent? I'm saying, give credit where credit is due. french is mad ice on the mic and you cant deny that. he deserves every bit of recognition. ever since he got shot in the dome, the nigga got better with time. I've been to every one of his freestyle cyphers since day one. French is one of the few New York niggas that is at the forefront of NY hip hop. you also got troy ave, uncle murda, cuban link, astro, fred the godson, and of course, bobby schmurda. these are the leaders of the new school.

    • Anonymous

You know damn well you ain't a fucking security guard and you never met or knew French, you're just a butthurt groupie on the net who can't take criticism of their favorite. And did you ever think the reason why French gets so much criticism is because he's trash? He can't rap, his songs are shit, he relies on others for hits, and he ain't helping NY rap with that Southern sounding shit. Seriously, there's thousands of rappers who are better than him.

    • french vanilla

That's because I happen to like french montana and thats precisely why anonymous niggas like you will never get ahead in life. And believe me I've gained alot in my 10 years experience as one of his security personnel than you ever will in your miserable life. i like to think the reason why you hate on french montana is that you secretly like him. think about it. all you niggas do is bitch about how new york is dead and that we need to bring our city back. bring it back to what condition? it never left. you're speaking from a commercial standpoint. I didnt hear anybody scream out new york is dead when french montana and max b was rapping on their cocaine city dvd's in 2004. now that you got a new york emcee spitting fire and keeping the legacy alive, all you do is find fault, any little chink in their armor because you're negative and depressed.

    • Anonymous

And you're sitting here defending him while gaining nothing out of it. Don't throw stones in a glass house, stanley.

  • Say What?

When you get so badly outshined on your own song I can see why, in retrospect, you might consider a song a mistake. French did so little on the Freaks song that it really should have been Nicki Minaj featuring French Montana anyways. Nicki looked incredible in the video and her lyrics were sooooo much more interesting in the song. French seemed 100% bored as he was rapping his verse in the beginning.
