Drake Says Kendrick Lamar Is Legendary, A King

Drake: "Kendrick was on my album. We went on tour together. Thats one of the hardest niggas alive right there."

Amid rumors of a feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Drake took a moment to celebrate the Compton, California emcee at his recent OVO Fest

"While I got you here on stage," he said to the crowd, "While you all got your phones out. I want to shout out my nigga, Kendrick Lamar. Shout out to Kendrick. Kendrick was on my album. We went on tour together. That’s one of the hardest niggas alive right there. He’s legendary. He should be standing right there. There's a lot of kings in this shit."

Drake said this with J. Cole standing beside him. Last month, Drake had a similar moment next to J. Cole, only that time, Drake omitted other rappers.

"There's only two kings in this shit right now," Drake said at the time. "They're standing on this stage."

That fueled rumors of a feud between Drake and Lamar.

In August of last year, Drake spoke on Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse, in which K. Dot said he was trying to murder every rapper in the genre.

"I didn't really have anything to say about it," Drake said. "It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic."

When I think about the realest rappers, Nas, BIG, and 50 come to mind. But you gotta put Drake up there. People always make the case that he's a "simp" or "soft"... But he tells the truth. He talks about what he knows, which is mostly love. But when he starts sending shots everybody calls him fake. If somebody was coming at you, would you just stand there? Drake never claimed to be something he's not and continues to be on top of the game. Realest rapper out.

Been listening to GKMC all day and I do not know why guys call it a classic its far from it. I wouldn't even call it a great album just a good one

    • Anonymous

Oxymoron is just as good! And I've definitely have listened. Meek mill has a better intro on Dreams and nightmares! Bitch Don't kill my vibe, Backseat freestyle, the art of peer pressure are all bangers. Money tree is a banger but the last verse is weak. poetic justice is str8,Maad city is a lil over 2mins long. I get really into it then it switches to the ok song with mc eiht and i'm like wtf! swimming pools and sing about me are the last 2 bangers! It only has 13 songs 12 listed. the last 3 are average. I'm not hating I just cant put it in the same category as ready 2 die, All eyes on me, The blue print or Illmatic. We live in an era when Mc's aren't putting out classic albums So when there is a good one its automatically considered a classic. Cassics change the game. Kendrick hasn't changed the game yet. Pac changed the game with all eyes on me it was the 1st hip hop double album and you could play every song. Eminen changed the game the 1st Mc to sell 1 million in a week with the slim shadey LP. Change the game!

At the age of 17, Wayne was in the mean streets of New Orleans gangbangin and living the life of a true thug. At the age of 17, Tupac was in a fancy rich snob school, takin ballet classes, prancing around like a ballerina in his tu-tu. At the age of 17, Kendrick was getting bullied by all of Compton's true blood niggas (which Wayne has connections with) & was a NERD in high school. Nuff said. Lil Wayne is the KING of HIP HOP!

How is Drake soft? He's comfortable with who he is.

  • JG

JCole is trash. Only way he is relevant is standing next to Drizzy while Drizzy bigs up other niggas.

    • Anonymous

Nah. K camp is trash. French Montana is Trash. Migos are a combination of trash. J. Cole is a pretty good rapper with some real subjects to actually talk about. Step up your listening ability son.

i bet kendrick paid drake to talk nice about him and make himself relevent. We all know kendrick should be shining drakes shoes for a carreer had drake not given him a feature and made him relevent.

Hostess cupcake soft? That's the best description of Drake.

  • Anonymous

Drake admitted to being on PCP during this interview. What he meant to say was Kendrick is Hostess cupcake soft, and went soft platinum.

    • ^

      That makes no sense.

    • Anonymous

soft plat is when you only hit plat cuz hipsters and little girls buy your albums. drake aint soft plat bnecause while yes his fanabase is mainly females, they are all his celebnrity ex girlfriends that he has had relations with and now tells all the secrets tot eh whole world in his songs

    • Anonymous

What the hell is soft platinum? Niggas are reaching new levels to hate.

    • Anonymous

Funny because Drake sounded completely sober and he did nothing but praised Kendrick. But you can twist the truth if you want, it won't change shit. Also, Drake can't call anyone soft when he's the epitome of soft.

I honestly don't think Drake is a confident person for SOME REASON. How can you be the so called "Top Nigga" and say all this crazy shit about other artist. Like straight Groupie shit. Kendrick, Kanye(his idol), the list goes on. I just dont understand the shit. The rapper him and the REAL him are 2 totally different people. Maybe he just really is a Soft White Boy deep down inside. I really dont know.

  • The grizz

All 3 are at the top of the genre. k dot and j cole lyrically are a lot better than drake. but drake makes incredible music so.... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=692340710834067

  • Big 18th Street Gang, E'z up!

"LEGENDARY"?? LMFAO!! Somebody please put a cap in this faggots ass already! Pete Rock, Premo, Dilla, Rakim, Nas, Wu-Tang, etc etc are legendary. Kendrick Lamar is definitely not "legendary", that's a joke right there. That's some bullshit talk but it doesn't surprise me considering all the faggots in the rap game nowadays giving each other hand jobs.

    • >>

assuming your a NY nigga. Kendrick got along way to go and I believe Nas is in the top 3 but you can quit that shit.

  • groupon

drake is so fucking wack but at least he said the truth... ain't nobody fucking wityh kendrick who is the only new school rapper with a classic album

    • Anonymous

Classic Lol! Ready2Die, All eyes on me, the blueprint, Death Certificate, The Chronic, Southernplayalisticcadilacmuzik, The marshall matthers LP! The Documentary Get rich or die trying, The murder was the case soundtrack, Criminal Minded, niggaz 4 Life, Doggystyle , Illmatic! these are classic! I like Kendrick but he hasn't done anything yet. Good Kidd Maad City is Good but it could've been better. You're Disrespecting the game by calling it a classic. Classics you play all day and know every single word. I don't think people do that with his album sorry. The next one could be but please stop calling gkmc a classic. "If pirus and crips all got along they would probably gun me down by the end of this song". Im sorry I need more and Kendrick isn't shooting nobody but hes so real

    • Adse

      You forgott about Freddie Gibbs.

  • Alecboyh

when will drake release his first good album ? because so far only Nas & kendrick lamar are running this shit as far as quality goes

  • Volt papi

soulja boy > chief keef > my shit >>> drake hes right about kendrick though, hes the best out right now but drake still a trash artist

    • Anonymous

Drake is trash lol! you probably just got done playing 0 to 100 or Believe me Lol. Kendrick hasn't dropped shit since 2012. You might not like Drake but there body of works don't compare. Numbers Never Lie

  • zeezeerax

kdot is the only king in hip hop atm

  • furbase

drake will never be king, he has to drop a classic like kendrick did and then we can talk

    • Anonymous

classic? I skip 7 8 11 and 12 off of Kendricks album and theres only 12 songs. I don't even play the bonus disc

  • Real Talk

Fucking Retard answer my question correctly, so if I think Drake makes quality music and you obviously don't like him. So u would say it's not quality. Then where do we end up, is it quality or not?

  • Dreamvillain

King Cole after his third album drops in 2015. Cole is going to surprise a lot of people. Insider info told me he's worked with a variety of producers and switched his sound up.

  • philly5

Shout out to Doap Nixon, a true fire MC.

  • drake runs rap

Unfortunately for Kendrick, he has a long way to go before he can be considered a true king like my man Drake, who currently has 4 classic albums under his belt. A couple more albums from Kendrick and he might reach the level of a duke. Until then, Drake runs rap.

    • Anonymous

You're clearly overthinking this. Endorsements are just another cash grab, nothing more. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm just saying.

    • drake runs rap

You're looking at it through a monetary and myopic perspective. Endorsements are not just to gain another check. It's also about adding to one's resume and opening opportunities.

    • Anonymous

No, they don't. Endorsements have nothing to do with music. They don't elevate artists to any heights or help their careers, they just give them another check and that's it. They don't make superstars. And you can't be talking about vague opinions when your comments are nothing but vague opinions. You have the internet, use it for something other than social media, porn, and trolling, use it to educate yourself.

    • drake runs rap

Wrong, LOL. Endorsements have plenty to do with music. They catapult artists to unbelieveable heights, reaching a level of superstardom that no one can imagine. They help them to segue into movie roles, executive roles, etc. The possibilities are endless. And to Mr Anonymous, the point of a debate is to specify exactly what/why your opinion is important and so far your points are rather vague.

    • LOL

I like how the Drake fanboy brings up irrelevant things that have nothing to do with the music.

    • Anonymous

Again, many rappers have their own commercials, days, and are ambassadors. You act like he's the first one to do this when so many rappers have done them before. Do some research next time. And I don't need to elaborate and give examples when you can just look it up with a Google search.

    • drake runs rap

Well how else do you explain the fact that he had his own Kodak commercial, his own day in Houston(the nigga is Canadian for god's sake), and an ambassador of the Toronto Raptors? And please elaborate when you reply; give specific examples this time.

    • Anonymous

There are no surprises. Drake is not the best, stanley. Also, you got that last sentence backwards because all of Drake's music was dogshit compared to GKMC. Do you listen to music or do you just skim through it?

    • drake runs rap

But at OVO fest, you can expect many, many surprises. That's why Drake is the best to ever do it. And by the way, GKMC was dog shit compared to Nothing Was the Same and the entirety of Drake's catalog.

    • Anonymous

Many rappers have worked with Stevie Wonder and Outkast were already reunited before. Drake ain't doing anything new.

    • Anonymous

K dot has two classics. Section 80 was an album

    • anonomilly

LOL, People have debated for over a year whether GKMC is a classic, with the majority of well respected rappers and media saying it is... I dont think any of Drakes albums and the word classic as been brought up in the same sentence,.. until 'Drakerunsrap' says so... He had a classic "mixtape" in So Far Gone, and has taken baby steps BACKWARDS since

    • drake runs rap

Are you insane? How could drake NOT be a king in his own right? The man worked with Stevie Wonder for God's sake, not to mention he also managed to reunite Outkast at OVO fest. Hence the reason why Drake runs rap.

    • Anonymous

      Still wrong, bitch.

  • Not Impressed

Drake is a cornball joke and wannabe gangster, Kendrick WILL murder that garbage nigga on ANY POSSIBLE LEVEL. Lil Wayne already perfected this nigga style GTFOH. Not Impressed.

  • milehighkid303

I swear, this new age of "hip hop" is absolutely laughable. These new jacks will come out and claim ANYTHING. All it is now is ass-kissing around the industry which just makes shit worse. No one has ANY originality anymore, no drive, no hunger and no TRUE MCing skills. MAN hip hop used to be something you could escape to, vibe to and empathize with. Nowadays it ain't nothing but a shit show.

  • Sam Snead

I'm a fan of Kendrick but lets ease up on being a legend. I guess maybe Drake calling Kendrick a legend,is that he hopes that he will be thought of as one too.

    • Sam Snead

Nelly's rise to fame didn't include being signed to the most popular label when he came out, or having a sprite commercial with the biggest rappers featuring on his track or getting co-signed by every rapper in the industry like Drake. When Nelly came out rap was more competitive and rappers didn't just throw around love, co-signs and features to other rap crews. They were competing for sales and respect, one of the many reasons sales are down. Even with all that in consideration I wouldn't call Nelly a legend, it was hooks and songs girls loved and bought and danced to in the club. Andale andale, mama EI EI uh ohhhh!!!!

    • Sam Snead

Is Ja rule a legend?? Is Nelly a legend?? Would anybody put them in their top 10-20 off all time?? I mean it is your opinion but most hip hop heads would not. I will take an artist I respect more than both of the, Luda. I wouldn't put him in my top 20

    • KelzCT

SHAQ WENT PLATINUM. End The Discussion. Record Sales And Lyrical Ability DO NOT RELATE!!!

    • Anonymous

      Already answered that question.

    • Real Talk

Fucking Retard answer my question correctly, so if I think Drake makes quality music and you obviously don't like him. So u would say it's not quality. Then where do we end up, is it quality or not??

    • Anonymous

You always like to call everyone white, yet you're the simple-minded white person here. And the definition of quality music is if it's good, it's good, if it's crap, it's crap. Simple.

    • Real Talk

Fuck u cud tell your simple minded, ok white kid what's your definition of "quality music" and who decides it's quality. So if someone really likes a song, and u really hate the song. Does that means it's not quality? I kno u white people like to make yourself out to be inferior to every other race and what u say must be right. But fck u are either slow or trying to troll

    • Anonymous

By that logic, the Transformers movies are the best films since they make a lot of money at the box office despite universally negative reviews.

    • Anonymous

Nothing you said went over anyone's head. I knew what you were saying and it's a crap argument with a bajillion logic holes. Your ice cream example is a terrible one. Sales/numbers doesn't mean quality, it only means popularity which isn't the same as quality. And sales/numbers don't mean anything when the music sucks, fuck the people with crap taste who buy it. My comment isn't bias, it's truthful and you can't handle it.

    • Real Talk

^ everything I said goes over head, let me break it down for your simple ass . If I said vanilla ice cream is the best flavor ever. And u said chocolate ice cream is the best flavor ever. How would we decide which is better? Let's take it to the numbers, say vanilla ice cream sells more than chocolate ice cream each year. It's not rocket science. U may feel the he doesn't make quality music, but over 1 million people do think he makes quality music. Your whole comment is bias.

    • Real Talk

Got another question for you Sammy, are you single? Would you possibly like to Skype sometime? PLMK

    • Anonymous

No, they don't. Not every artist that goes platinum makes quality music. It's possible to make trash music and still be successful, those artists you named are good examples of that. If anyone's slow and stupid, it's you for that dumbass thinking. Shit music is still shit music, no matter if it's successful or not. Stop beating around the bush.

    • Real Talk

Any artist who goes platinum makes quality music, or else the consumer would not buy their product. Are stupid? Slow? How come u can't comprehend that? Just cuz u may not like a artist, does not mean everyone doesn't like it as well. I shouldn't even reply but fck it I did

    • Anonymous

Sales only mean popularity, it doesn't mean quality. Those people you mentioned still suck.

    • Real Talk

It does mean something, redaurdless who u talk about next, from justin bieber, to vanilla ice, to any boy band. At one point they all had a huge fan base, that loved their music. U whites kids are retarded sometimes. Just cuz u don't like it don't mean someone else has to not like it as well. This how u can tell this sites full of immature teenS, my question is if u don't like drake why are u reading his articles for ?

    • Anonymous

Yes, be because sales automatically make you a good artist.

    • Real Talk
