Common was recently asked about how he feels regarding Hip Hop.

“I love where Hip Hop is,” Common says in an interview with Rap-Up. “There’s future in Hip Hop. I can appreciate the aspects of the quality Hip Hop and the freedom that I get out of artists, whether it’s Ab-Soul or Kendrick Lamar. Their whole team does unique things. I keep mentioning Lil Bibby, Lil Herb and Dreezy. I really like them. Chance does his thing. It’s people coming with different stuff. I appreciate that in Hip Hop. You still got that generation along with Nas, Kanye, Jay Z, myself, Eminem, artists putting out music that come from another decade, but the music is still sounding fresh. It’s like, Hip Hop has great things to offer.”

Common goes on to praise good kid, m.A.A.d cityas “one of the most complete albums we’ve heard in Hip Hop in a long time.”

Another emcee Common praises is Nicki Minaj.

“I think Nicki Minaj is a dope emcee,” he says. “She can really rhyme to me. From what she did on ‘Monster’ to now, she still is snappin’. When you hear her rap, you’re like, ‘Damn, this woman is cold.’ I mess with Nicki Minaj.”
