Dame Dash Says Lyor Cohen Ruined Roc-A-Fella Records

Dame Dash wants Lyor Cohen "to stop trying to rape my culture," calls the music executive "a fake CEO" and "culture vulture."

Lyor Cohen, Todd Moscowitz, Joie Manda, and Julie Greenwald were among the music executives mentioned by Dame Dash in a newly-published interview with Vlad TV. Dame was initially questioned about comments he made in regards to Lyor Cohen during an interview on The Combat Jack Show earlier this month.

After being asked about Cohen, Dame referred to the music exec as “a fake CEO” and “culture vulture” before stating that Cohen is raping the culture and was responsible for ruining Roc-A-Fella Records.

“My beef was with Lyor cause I think he’s a fake CEO,” Dame Dash said. “And I think he’s fronting on my culture, but he can’t front on anybody else. And I’m calling him out publicly. And I want him to stop trying to rape my culture. Go make some money with some other people. Like stop having your agenda be Hip Hop…It was like they have people that their job is to create beef. So, that they can monetize it. Pause. But they don’t let their culture feel it. But they make money from it. And they can’t make any money or get any respect in their culture. That’s why they’re in our culture. Because the minute that they were allowed to be there, they would go. But they just can’t…Never had a beef with Jay. Always with Lyor and his whole crew. He’s the one that ruined Roc-A-Fella. Lyor Cohen.”

Dame Dash later brought accountability into question as he asked why people like Cohen and Todd Moscowitz are never questioned about how they got to where they are in the world of urban music.

“Of course you don’t see the puppetmaster,” he said. “So, it’s time to see him. Bring em out. Call out Todd Moscowitz…Ask them why they got their jobs. That’s what I want to see. How did Joie get the job president of urban? And what does that mean? I need to see credentials. And culturally anyone that’s taking orders from that man should be asking ‘Why should I be taking orders from you?’ Period…’I don’t care.’ He said it. Joie said it. ‘I don’t care.’ ‘How you feel about the culture?’ ‘I don’t care.’ ‘How do you feel that someone relevant from the culture thinks you’re robbing it?’ ‘I don’t care.’ And nobody’s gonna question that? Aight. That’s why I’m Dame. I’ll just continue to be Dame. I’mma have fun being Dame…Too much divide and conquer. So, that’s it, man. I’m just saying reverse the prospective. Let’s stop talking about rappers beefing. Let’s start talking about these people and educating the culture.”

While appearing on The Combat Jack Show weeks ago, Dame also criticized Steve Stoute. Similar to his critique of Cohen, Dame also referred to Stoute as a “culture vulture.”

“I don’t like Steve Stoute,” Dame said in early June. “Nobody really likes him He’s a culture vulture. But it’s worse ‘cause he’s Black.”

Dame Dash is talking real. And he's not talking about Hip Hop Fans wearing Hip Hop GEar. He's going in on the Zionist that own the big record labels, that rape artist and promote "beefs" and "drugs" to the younger generation. They on purpsely sign wack mfs like Chief Keef and "Future" you have 5 year olds singing "all i want for my birthday is a big booty girl" NO BS! this girl was singing that in front of me at the Grocery STore. Then you have kids rapping and repeating "Ya'll niggaz move that dope, move that dope" SMH anybody that's against Dame Dahs is either a racist or a Zionist Jew protecting Lyin ass Cohen and the rest of Zionist Jews that run this Industry

^^ What you said don't have anything to do with the OP and the OP went a little left fiel. Lyor Cohen is a jew and he has helped exploit the culture with no investment in it, you've seen him run companies but never owned one and have screwed their artists out of money, that's why they drop established acts and sign these illiterate niggas, because they don't know the game like that and are easy to be taken advantage of in turn programming ya'll to think there's an age limit to this shitwhile the OG's that are trying to warn them are being dismissed as being bitter when actually they've been there and they just looking out, in this case Lyor took Curren$y from under Dame to never be heard from again, Dame was helping Curren$y's post YM buzz on the low he booked tours, features, and mixtapes where he at now? WMG with Lyor and you haven't heard any more airplane jet life shit since and the bul nice as fuck. This is Dame's main beef with Lyor and Joe ie.

If you really think that the movement for the establishment, protection and development of Israel that was formed in 1897 controls the rap game & the world you are the biggest fool to ever exist. Israel is The ONLY place in the entire Middle East where Christians, Muslims & Jewish people live together in peace in a democratic society, yet the are trying to destroy your small portion of the music industry? LMAO damn B if this is how some people feel, then your parents done fucked up raising you and common sense is definitely not common. L M A O. Wait Jews run the world yet are the smallest group of people on earth. Then that means they must have some special powers or some shit. Meanwhile your ass is crying bout it. Gangsta rap is OWNED BY jews LMAOO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH what a sick moron.

He's always been his own boss and he's calling out the hired help who never invested anything into advancing the culture but are protecting a corporation's interest and are more dispensible. Slave minded niggas don't get what he's talking about. The ones you're siding with got you to stay operating at a low frequency, so it's no surprise that you think he's the one that's wrong.

Dame sound like a scorned female

  • Anonymous

Well if someone is a culture "vulture" that means your culture is dead in the place or on the verge to die... So they didn't do anything wrong actually

  • Anonymous

Typical nigga shit...When the goings get tough, instead of taking responsibility like a real man should... Well take the monkey off your back by blaming someone else, preferably from other races...

  • Anonymous

Dame dash should think of the list of extravagant things he got himself and wonder if that isn't also part of being a culture vulture. pursuing profit is fine unless your frivolous. help your local hood out before you wear a brand new pair of sneekers everyday.

  • anonymus

The article ruffled a few racist feathers on here because the culture does not automatically mean black but racists undestand code talk. Those that are in the culture or think independently know what Dame's talking about, anyone else is a mere consumer or an employee. Dame's talking boss shit and he's going at people that are protecting something they don't own and destroying what we love for a buck. Rick Rubin, Beastie Boys, pre interscope Em are part of the culture, Lyor Cohen does not have their hip hop credentials yet he's had say so on what the culture needs and he's doing it with other people's money as an employee. Dame's not an employee that's why he ain't scared to call out the bullshit.

  • Kyle Brolovski

Yes JEWS run hiphop! Remember who Jerry Heller the JEW shitted on those so called hardcore gangstas named NWA? lol black people think they run hiphop and talking illuminati shit but illuminati are the JEWS

If Dame grates your nerves so much why don't you just stop listening to him. First of all, the man is speaking on matters that concern us black folks, yep I said; the need for artists to take their present/future into their own hands, so what the fuck is wrong with that? Second, if you do not understand 'culture vulture' then your ass must be severely retarded. Third, he spoke on this on Combat Jack which is way more credible than (not)Hot 97. Lastly, to those white folks catching feelings, what is your investment in this culture? Yeah, you buy albums (tell us something we didn't know) and you get to live the so-called black experience vicariously (which would be true if you weren't supporting that lil Wayne/Young Thug/Tyga trash), you even get to have your own rap Elvis (EM. It is time to mind your business and let us handle ours.

    • Anonymous

Nah, fuck you. To us ain't no backpack, fucker, it's all hip-hop (when it id one right) and don't ever put Wayne in the category of a Curtis (one is emasculated/effeminate and the other is making grown man moves) and get the fuck outta here with that 'most white' cop out shit. Nah, fuck you, canaan.

    • Anonymous

who says that Whites listen to Lil Wayne, 50 cent Game, etc. most white hiphopfans listen to backpack rap so FUCK YOU!

  • COCA

IF HE SAID THIS ON A DIFFERENT PLATFORM, MAYBE IT WOULD BE RELEVANT... BUT NOT ON VLADTV.

  • jews

    we control everything

  • D.G

Those people who he is talking about Really are "Culture Vultures" and do not really care about the true culture of hip-hop. Lyor and kevin liles just started their own company called 300. Their first artists are Young Thug & Migos.... Just sayin, you do the math!!

So every non white person has to stop using BMX bikes & skateboards. Stop wearing stussy, nike, obey, mishka, 10 deep, vans, adidas, reebok, STOP BEING CULTURE VULTURES!!!!!!!!!! WEAR BLACK OWNED BRANDS ONLY!!!!!!!!

    • anonymus

Those are the culture vultures. Do you think they would be as successful without us?

    • Anonymous

Shh, racism only works one way and it is completely fine for Dame to say so. HipHopDX will make no mention of the comments and it fact will promote this line of thinking with various other "articles" that they publish.

    • Anonymous

they should stop wearing Supreme, Huf and Diamond Supply Co too.

  • DAME TRASH

So this is just an exclusively black culture? I guess we have to black list all the white event coordinators, managers, public relation firms, graphic artists, studio engineers, assistants, car rental agents, hotel concierges, interviewers, all media people, all the white fans who buy our music, all the white clothes designers who we buy all of our name brand items from (LVMH). We should stop buying Mercedes, Fords, Cadillacs, Lincolns, GM trucks, etc. Lets also not forget about the Asian and Latino culture vultures, or the Arab hip hop culture vultures. Lets just focus on white people and still point the finger at them. Oh and we have to blame our own people for the lack of Black Rock artists, Jimi Hendrix is known by every man woman and child as the best to ever do it period. Ya'll fools dont even know 1 Black rock n roll artist.

    • Anonymous

"I guess we have to black list all the white event coordinators, managers, public relation firms, graphic artists, studio engineers, assistants, car rental agents, hotel concierges, interviewers, all media people, all the white fans who buy our music, all the white clothes designers who we buy all of our name brand items" Yes we do, since they're not part of the culture.

  • Chi-Ill

OKAY Dame, your time has been up. Sit yo ass down! Don't nobody care anymore!

  • DAME TRASH

Funny how in 1999-2001 Dames behind the scene entourage was all white boys & they would hop out of his luxury Ford Econoline Van going to DL clubs in Manhattan. Dame is a giant poser. He's bitter that he didn't handle his businesses correctly, like when he went to Bentley with his 460 FICO score & cried that he couldnt get a GT. And WTF is a "CULTURE VULTURE". That term makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Is a culture vulture just directed at white people? Because there are other races out there too...

  • The Clap

The only problem I have with things like this is the fact that he would never be talking all this shit if he was still in the circle. Now that you've be ousted, you feel the need to play hero and shit. Other than that he is speaking the absolute truth. A lot of people bobbing their heads have never heard the names he mentioned.

this whole culture vulture shit is getting out of hand I mean if y'all really feel like they're robbing and destroying the culture then why the hell do you even fuck with them in the first place? go the independent route if that's really how you feel or else shut the fuck up

  • 614grind

Dame Dash is a G fuck all you haters

  • Jabroni

This nigga blames everyone but himself. What a tool.

  • P.skillz

Are you people seriously trying to make this a black and white issue? I mean, if it's one day people are mad at the fact that their are gay hip-hop heads (black, white, green, etc...) You kids don't want to allow them into the "culture". Then y'all read sections like this from someone who obviously is still struggling with the loss of an empire and want to make it ALL about race, white vs black BS and say their shouldn't be "white" people in the "culture" and we should keep Hip-Hop "black". Do any of you PEOPLE (this includes all races, sexes, and nationalities) realize how IGNORANT y'all sound??? This IS HIP-HOP! Being a culture of the "forgotten youth" if you will! Remember was Raekwon said in his song "Incarcerated Scarfaces" about this being for the "uninvited"? He was referring to the people of Hip-Hop and the "culture" y'all speak of. And lest we forget, MC Serch, a white Hip-Hop artist was the one who discovered Nas and help put his first record, "Halftime" out! Yet, here we are saying that this is a culture specifically for black people. I mean, I could go on for days about how irrelevant race is in Hip-Hop in 2014, but it would just fall on Def ears (see what I did there? That's word play, making a reference to Def Jam which was founded by black and white men) on all the ignorant people on this board. Real Hip-Hop heads will knew what I'm talking about and acknowledge the history Hip-Hop has tied into it with white and black people intermingling in this "culture" together. PS - Before I end this, don't forget about Blondie's "Rapture" single back in the 80's giving Hip-Hop it's first mainstream reference shouting out Fab Five Freddie and Grandmaster Flash... But hey, these days this type of stuff does not matter because this is a completely "black culture" thing, ya know, Hip-Hop and stuff. The fuck out'a hereeeee...

    • P.skillz

Ok, @Ya Diggy, you obviously have a backwards way of thinking by judging things by race. This is exactly what is holding black people back, right here. Instead of learning to work with each other (and I refer to others as people in general, white or black), you hold racial sentiments against others and hang onto the past. This is exactly what Dame Dash is doing. And lmao @ "what happened to rock and roll and jazz happening to hip-hop". I'm still scratching my head on that one. Manifest Destiny? Are you joking? Your talking about what happened in the 19th century of the United States and associating with why hip-hop should remain a "black culture"... This is completely irrelevant to any of this. And this is exactly why people like Jay-Z, Eminem and Kanye West are some of the most commercially successful artist of all time. Not just in Hip-Hop but in MUSIC. Because they looked past skin color and enjoyed the "culture" of hip-hop. Do I believe hip-hop has its roots in black culture, sure, but why not expand and grow with one another to create something bigger than the streets of New York would have ever imagined? Thats what is called progression... My question to the readers is; Have any of you ever been to a Jay-Z concert? I had tickets to the 'Rock the Mic' tour back in like 2002 and have most recently seen Jay and Kanye together for 'Watch the Throne' and NO ONE gave me grief about my skin color. Matter of fact, it was Kanye and Jay that encouraged ALL people of ALL colors, creeds and nationalities to sing along with their lyrics and to unite with the music. But then again, because I'm white I'm missing the point and don't know what I'm talking about. I'll just continue doing what I'm doing, going to see Jay rock crowds live and selfishly enjoying a "culture" I can't belong to due to me skin color... Funny thing is, I bet I'm one of the few people on this website that actually contributes financially to the artists I like either by supporting them live or buying their CD's still and downloading directly from iTunes. Grow up people...

    • @OP

      You just don't understand, B

    • Ya Diggy

Ok, obviously you are white. That's first of all. Second of all, I do respect SOME whites in Hip Hop. But this is Black culture. It's the only form of culture we have in the United States as a people. After Manifest Destiny, we lost everything pertaining to our culture, including tradition, which is why African American put such a strong emphasis on keeping and maintaining Hip Hop. Like the previous commenter said, we don't want what happened to Rock N Roll and Jazz to happen to Hip Hop.

  • Da Watcha

    Shots fired....Salute Dame Dash!!!!!

  • Yessir

Black People! We need our OWN Hip Hop, R&B Hall of Fames! We need our OWN distribution. We need to stop letting these people not of our culture to eat off of what WE created! Don't let Hip Hop become assimilated like Jazz and Rock! Keep Hip Hop Black!!

Its 2014 and people are waking up. Lyin Cohen, a Zionist Jew, is just one of too many Zionist Jews that are raping The African American Culture. They on purposely sign backwards-thinkin black people that can't rap for shit and put them right there on MTV and BET. They create these "beefs" so they can profit off of it, just like Israel.

  • Hater_Deluxe

we all realize that you have the RIGHT not to SIGN to a major label or a PERSON who is a CULTURE VULTURE. Correct? It's interesting that Dame finds it's necessary to air dirty laundry now that he is no longer current. When someone gives you a loan to make an album, video, etc., it's expected that they make the most money because they are the ones that took the financial risk. it's also disconcerting how much hate mongering i've seen towards jewish people. It's important to note that you are being prejudice. anyway I know how this comment section works. so have at it and respond in some homophobic bigoted way. just know how predictable you are.

    • TheBigPicture_Deluxe

That may play into it but that's an issue that is very difficult to address as quantifying reparations and the like would be incredibly difficult. I wouldn't put too much worth into him blaming Jews, it tends to be a popular thing that people in this business do due to the fact that those who are in control of this business are either Italian of Jewish. I'm just trying not to give that part of his words much credence because it dilutes his main points. I'm definitely not one sided but there is an issue when the head of the "Urban" department of a record label has absolutely no background in being nor coming from an "Urban" culture/region. Thoughts?

    • Me

I guess it's a reparations thing and because if blacks in America were given reparations like the Jews we wouldn't be having this conversation.. And Dame is only maturing and understanding the game he was in heavy, he probably didn't know what he knows now back then.. And if you feel some type of hate toward Jews it may be because they groups of people should've been taken care of like the Jews were, do you think that might have something to do with why people feel the way they feel?? Or are you one sided??

    • TheBigPicture_Deluxe

Great points but It's not that simple. If you entice someone with a backwards contract who came from a situation of no financial stability... you see where i'm going with this? It's exploitation at it's finest. Typical corporate behavior. What Dame is highlighting is how wrong this is. That's what i'm taking from it. I highly doubt it will ever change... it is what it is...

There use to be some accountability in hip hop amongst the artist and the execs. Where everyone would get called out if there was BS involved within the culture. You can't even listen to the radio in the morning when you take your kids to school because of the violence or self hatred coming over the air. Freedom of speech is one thing. But when is someone gonna get at these executives for pushing that BS thru. And how do a Jewish man become the head of the urban department?
