Eminem Banned From Hyde Park Due To "Offensive" Lyrics, New Documents Reveal

The Daily Mirror says it has new documents that show Eminem was banned from playing Hyde Park because his lyrics were deemed "offensive" and "unsuitable."

Eminem was reportedly banned from performing at Hyde Park due to lyrics being seen as "offensive" and "unsuitable," according to new documents obtained by The Daily Mirror, confirming reports that published made in May

AEG agreed to terms with Eminem for a performance at the venue, but the agreement was vetoed by Royal Parks, which runs Hyde Park. Royal Parks CEO Linda Lennon said the following about the matter in an e-mail:

"This artist flagged risks across the board. In particular in respect of our public reputation," Lennon said. "The nature of any act with potential for lyrics to be deemed offensive and/or unsuitable language being audible within the park as a whole, let alone the surrounding residential areas, is unacceptable."

London Mayor Boris Johnson's office says they were not involved in the decision to stop Eminem from performing at Hyde Park.

AEG's Jim King said the following after receiving the ruling.

"I don't want to split hairs but I do question how easy it is for any offensive lyrics to be heard and actually understood outside of our event site," he said. He also added that he was not "aware of any other case whereby he has been prevented from performing in the UK."

Black Sabbath, Neil Young and Arcade Fire are other acts on the card Eminem was set to play. Instead, Eminem is slated to perform at Wembley Stadium July 11 and 12.

This report confirms a May story from The Mirror. At the time, the publication had a source that said:

“Eminem is a controversial artist, whose lyrics have been accused of being homophobic, provocative and pretty sweary...So there has been some debate about whether The Royal Parks will rubber-stamp any agreement to play there...He’s a huge name, and would be a great draw for fans, but it may not be the right image for the parks if he’s effing and blinding on stage,”

Eminem addressed this in May, The Mirror says.

"I heard that I wasn't going to be approved to play in Hyde Park and it made me even more excited to play in London this summer," he reportedly said. "The easiest way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't do it. Thanks to the Royal Parks for making it all possible... for Wembley."

"Best 3 albums that get no play in the real world of a functional society" LMAO

These people act like not getting played at a club is a bad thing. And if you honestly think Eminem doesn't get plays at a club, then you never been to a club at all.

    • Anonymous

Another who agrees. No one has said hes wack yet so we all agree, but you weirdos wont admit the reality. Dude there are other clubs out there that play different rap music beyond migos or whoever, perhaps its you who wish to attend the same places Actual experience trumps opinions, yall have yet to prove me wrong beyond your emotional assessments

What???? You never hear a Nas record in the club? Stop it!!!! I wasn't even going to post on this topic but I have to agree Eminem doesn't get tons of spins in the club so to speak. He does have a few songs that do however. Nas, Pac, BIG, Pun, Meth, Ghost, Jay-Z and many others all have some songs in their catalog that have been on heavy rotation in clubs at one point in their careers. It's simple Em's music is just not the get up and dance type. He tries to force it but it never seems fluid to me. He is still a great rapper.

Who gives a fuck about clubs? They always play trash like Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, etc. You never hear a Nas record in a club. Hip-hop is bigger than the clubs, but stay thinking that close-minded strawman crap that if it ain't playing in the clubs, it doesn't exist.

Very True. Even though Eminem is a great MC and entertainer a lot of time his lyrics are like WTF did he just say? I had his last CD(Which is great by the way) but a lot of times I had to rewind a certain part to hear wtf did he just say?

Mozart and Beethoven are not played in the club too.

    • Because The Internet

Eminem is one of the best artist "overall" and probably the best Rap artist of all time. He has nothing to prove anymore. So your lists and reasons are nothing but non sense.

There you go again with the lies. You don't know anything.

Yall the type be home bromancing with your buds practically sword crossing for em saying the greatest ever while your girls be at the dance spot picking out new dick Yall dont club because you cant dance and they dont play eminem there and there's that "crowd" you don't like, now the girls gotta green light for many a girls nite out Levels are so deep your other buddies would rather hang at the bar than holed up listening to eminem playing video games, at least they can meet some women, yall aint gotta clue as to whats going on Jayz, nas, ross, 50 fans dont have that problem

    • Anonymous

Oh, yeah. Because good hip-hop music is measured by club spins. LOL FOH with that strawman bullshit.

      Nobody believes your rambling lies.

Best 3 albums that get no play in the real world of a functional society No one is dancing to those albums in the clubs, actually you'll hear a lord jamar verse in a hiphop club before you will an eminem song, lol All you gonna refer is to stats, them lists, articles and sales don't tell what the real world is listening to, you gotta be there to see yourself and you referring to stats means you nowhere to be found when the music is jumping We call that living hiphop, you ain't living this son

    • Anonymous

Yeah that's why his first three albums are three of the best rap albums ever released?

      ^hurts doesn't it

Eminem got ran out of UK. Hyde Park would wwelcome ross in open arms.

    • Anonymous

Ross doesn't promote his music as just music.

    • Anonymous

Ross ain't generous at all. Both Ross and Eminem's music are promoted as music.

    • Anonymous

Because ross is a generous guy in life and his music is promoted as just being music. Eminem's is promoted as being real even though it never happened.

    • Anonymous

If they won't let Eminem perform because of offensive lyrics, what makes you think they would let Rick Ross, a guy with lyrics about shooting people, selling drugs, and putting roofies in a woman's drink, perform?

    • Anonymous

Eminem never got ran out of anywhere. Ross will never be accepted by Hyde Park if they won't let Eminem perform.

  • Burmy

The UK doesn't have freedom of speech, I take it?

    • asasda

Offensive lyrics doesn't entitle him to perform wherever he wants.
