Dame Dash Says He & Jay Z Own "Reasonable Doubt"

Dame Dash says he and Jay Z might have to do a "Reasonable Doubt" tour.

Dame Dash says he and Jay Z still have work they could do with Reasonable Doubt.

"Oh shit @raquelmhorn just let me know it's reasonable doubts 18th birthday...so glad we fought to own this 100 percent and it still creates income everyday... Its funny... Me and jay still own this together we might have to do a reasonable tour...maybe for the 20th anniversary...that way we could all make some money... I don't see why he wouldn't...might have to holla #freebiggs."

Reasonable Doubt, Jay Z's debut album, was released June 25, 1996. The album earned critical praise and has been called Jay Z's greatest effort, by many, including Jay.

In December 2013, Jay named it his best album and discussed his other projects. His list and commentary is below:

"1. Reasonable Doubt (Classic)
2. The Blueprint (Classic)
3. The Black Album (Classic)
4. Vol. 2 (Classic)
5. American Gangster (4 1/2, cohesive)
6. Magna Carta (Fuckwit, Tom Ford, Oceans, Beach, On the Run, Grail)
7. Vol. 1 (Sunshine kills this album…fuck… Streets, Where I’m from, You Must Love Me…)
8. BP3 (Sorry critics, it’s good. Empire (Gave Frank a run for his money))

10. Vol. 3 (Pimp C verse alone… oh, So Ghetto)
11. BP2 (Too many songs. Fucking Guru and Hip Hop, ha)

Why didn't Jay Z ever release the dvd or at least the whole audio cd for the Reasonable Doubt 10th year anniversary? The few tracks that were released were hot!

  • POPE

The "Reasonable Doubt" album is mediocre at best. I remember many people weren't even feeling it when it dropped in 1996. It only became more popular as Jay became more popular. Funny how that works. If you wanna talk overrated albums, "Reasonable Doubt" is in my top 5. If you wanna talk overrated rappers, Jay-Z is in my top 3 most overrated, along with Pac and Biggie. And don't bother coming at me with some bullshit opinion because I don't care what you think.

Real shit! I used to get into arguments over this album. Cats used to hate because they couldn't relate. Years after everybody hopped on the bandwagon.

If Jay-Z didn't become as popular and as successful as he did, "Reasonable Doubt" would be a forgotten album that most people wouldn't give a shit about. Honestly, I don't remember many peeps at all bumping that shit when it dropped. It's all hype now and peeps are brainwashed. That album is not as great as you think. Jay had a little flow but his voice is annoying and the beats are bland/boring. Around that time (95/96) and around my way, peeps was bumping KoolGRap-456, Onyx-All We Got Iz Us, OGC-Da Storm, Heltah-Nocturnal, Mobb-Hell on Earth, Nas-It Was Written, RasKass-Soul on Ice, Jeru-Wrath of the Math, LostBoyz-Legal Drug Money, Pac-All Eyez On Me & Don Killuminati, Blahzay-Blah Blah Blah, SmootheDaHuster-Once Upon a Time... etc. etc.

Ya right... back in '96 no one was talking about RD like it was some instant classic. Not the streets or hip hop in general. In fact, that year and the year that followed was one big tupac and biggie memorial, those deaths completely overshadowed RD.

This is the opinion of someone who doesn't know the culture. When Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt dropped, the streets knew they were special.

reasonable doubt was so far ahead of its time thats y some niggas wasnt feeln it... one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time

    • jr456

Your right. Bone album dropped in 95 and was more popular than this. Gza liquid swords and question mark assylum was more poppin than this

    • Spaz

There is truth to this. When Illmatic came out it was immediately critically praised by the entire hip hop community. Reasonable Doubt? it wasn't the instant classic that illmatic was, it was seen as a good album but not at level of illmatic. However, as Jay's career grew and hip hop advanced in age, so did the stature of RD.
