Green Label has compiled a list of “Unseen Hype: Underground Rappers You Need To Know About.”
The list, which features 15 rappers, highlights what it says is the wide range of artists who quality for the term “underground.”
“The term ‘ nderground’ is more nebulous in 2014 than it’s ever been in Hip Hop history,” the list says. “In the past, ‘underground rapper’ was a limiting term, meant to describe just one type of emcee. However, in the present day, an underground rapper can be from anywhere and have pretty much any type of style.”

Vic Mensa is one rapper who made the list, in part because of his collaborations with Ab-Soul, Rockie Fresh and Chance The Rapper.
“With multiple records and tours with J. Cole, Wale and Danny Brown under his belt,” the story says, “Mensa is undoubtedly going to make waves.”
